Hearing test results...

What on earth are they actually doing during an audiology exam when you aren't allowed to take any medication for five days beforehand and have to show up on an empty stomach? I mean—shouldn't they just be checking my hearing? What else could they possibly be doing? Are they going to knock me out or draw blood...? I fail to see how any of that has anything to do with my ears! 😲

Where are you going for this? I've never heard of having to fast or be off all meds for a hearing test.

Here's how it usually goes:
First, they check your ears to see if they're clear—basically making sure there isn't a bunch of wax blocking the sound from hitting your eardrums. If there is, they'll flush them out (depending on the tech, it might be a breeze or a nightmare)
Then they take you into a booth, put headphones on you, and you raise your hand whenever you hear a tone—right hand for the right ear, left for the left... simple enough.
After that, they use some kind of device on your forehead and neck to check your sensitivity or something...
Then you just sit around waiting to see the ENT.

Maybe you’re going in for evoked auditory potentials? That would explain why you can't take things like anti-anxiety meds or aspirin.

So, I’ve decided to play it by the book and head to the doctor to see what they have to say about my actual potential for recovery... I actually managed to snag two referrals from my primary care physician. But honestly, I am just completely stumped as to why I have to go back to square one and stop taking all my medications first. Apparently, I need a scan of my middle ear. Some people even claim that for certain medical tests, you have to be in a state of total physiological stillness—like you need to be perfectly calm and centered—so now I’m truly scratching my head. Why? What could possibly be the connection between my ear, my medication, and whether or not I’ve eaten? I tried asking my sister, but she was just as lost as I am...
