Does anyone have advice on how to soothe heartburn or manage it without relying on Tums or similar antacids? I tend to deal with acid reflux whenever I have a few drinks or after eating certain heavy meals.

Maybe try some ginger ale, or just a handful of almonds... honestly, you’re probably better off steering clear of alcohol and anything with heavy spices for now, so just look at where you ended up... but seriously, ginger ale is a total lifesaver!

It helps you steer clear of all that greasy, over-seasoned junk food. Also, try not to go ham on heavy meals within two hours of hitting the sack. Cut back on the booze, the smokes, and the stress too...
It also helps to prop up the head of your bed a bit. Getting some incline can stop that acid reflux from creeping up your esophagus if your heartburn is caused by a hiatal hernia or just a weak lower esophageal sphincter.

Proton pump inhibitors (the prescription stuff) can help too. And look, if none of that actually works, you really ought to get tested for H. pylori. That’s something you can actually treat...

Just stir a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water and knock it back... honestly, it’s been a total lifesaver for my heartburn lately.

I’ve been dealing with heartburn for a while now, and lately, when I lie down at night, it feels like I can’t catch my breath for a second—kind of like my throat is tightening up and blocking the air. Plus, I get these random sneezing fits after a big meal.
I did a little digging on Google, and apparently, acid reflux or GERD can actually cause breathing issues.
Anyone else out there dealing with something similar?😉

I’ve dealt with heartburn myself, and honestly, the first thing you need to do is cut out those massive, heavy meals. Just be really mindful of what you're eating and drinking, and you'll find it much easier to breathe and feel comfortable again.

So, I’m literally trying to quit Coke. I haven't even gone three weeks without it yet, and now I’ve started cheating on my diet. I used to be able to drink a ton of it without any issues, but lately, every time I have some, I feel bloated and my stomach just burns... Does anyone know why that's happening? How does soda affect the stomach like this, and what could it mean? Thanks in advance

Can anyone tell me why my stomach is acting up like this, how the soda is causing it, and what it might actually mean? Thanks in advance!

So, I've been dealing with this crazy heartburn for about a week now, and honestly, it feels like everything is just bubbling up in my throat! I haven't really dealt with anything like this before. I'm not totally sure if it's something I ate, maybe just stress, or if my stomach is just acting up. Has anyone else gone through this?

Something you're eating definitely isn't sitting right. Try to play detective and figure out what the trigger is... I deal with heartburn from time to time too.🙄

I realize this thread is ancient, but frankly, who cares? I’m going through the exact same thing. Every single time I lie down—whether I'm heading to bed or just crashing on the sofa—it happens. It feels like my breathing just stops for a split second. It absolutely terrifies me; my heart starts racing, and honestly, it’s a total disaster. Luckily, it doesn't happen constantly—maybe seven or eight times a month—but still, it's unsettling. I also struggle with heartburn, or at least that's my best guess. It isn't a daily occurrence, so I can't be entirely certain. But for the last three days, it has been relentless. First, I had these warm ham and cheese sandwiches, and immediately afterward, I felt like I had a literal stone sitting in my stomach, accompanied by burping and bloating. Then yesterday, I ate a greasy cheese pastry (something I eat almost every day without any issues usually), and things went south fast. Shortly after, I started feeling intense pain in my esophagus, my throat, and my stomach. Just constant burping with agonizing pain traveling from my throat down to my stomach and back up, plus acid reflux and this overwhelming nausea. Things seemed to settle down once I got home and lay down, but the moment I moved or tried to stand up, the pain flared right back up. I drank some Coke and took some Pepto-Bismol. Today seems okay. However, I felt a sort of lump right under my breastbone. I have no idea if that’s connected to all this misery. If anyone has any advice, I would be incredibly grateful!

😢Hello!
I am hoping someone might offer some advice—honestly, I feel like I’m losing my mind here.
I happen to be traveling through Brazil at the moment, so perhaps that context might help explain these symptoms.

For three weeks now, I have been dealing with lower abdominal pains—cramping, really—and general cramping throughout.
The intensity fluctuates—sometimes it’s sharp, sometimes it subsides, sometimes it vanishes—but the discomfort is constant.
On top of that, the heartburn is absolutely unbearable. 😢 I could eat nothing—dry rice, plain crackers, even bread—and it feels as though I’ve swallowed actual stones.😢
I can’t seem to eat anything without feeling this intense sensation of heaviness, burning, and pain in my stomach.😢 I’ve been sipping chamomile tea constantly—I practically carry it to work with me—but it does nothing; the heartburn persists and seems to be getting worse. Now, I’m also dealing with bloating after every single meal, in addition to this wretched acid reflux.😢
Does anyone have any advice? I desperately need some reassurance because I won't be able to see a doctor for another month and a half until I return to the States—and frankly, I’m terrified. To make matters worse, I tend toward hypochondria; my mind keeps jumping to all sorts of dire diagnoses. It’s particularly stressful when I go out surfing and end up finding every possible ailment listed in a medical textbook.

My digestion is unpredictable—one day I deal with constipation, then things seem normal, then back to constipation again. I honestly don't know what is happening, but this heartburn is killing me.

Even this morning, I ate a tiny bit of mashed potato and crackers, and immediately, the heartburn returned.

I’m wondering, does anyone else experience such intense heartburn after eating? For me, it happens after every single meal—sometimes more intense, sometimes less, but consistently after everything I consume.

During my first two months here, I was eating all sorts of things, but now I am essentially restricted to nothing.
I should mention that even simple white rice causes me immense distress.
I am hungry, yet unable to eat.😢
I’m going to try some soy yogurt now to see how my body reacts—since this tiny amount of food is already causing such agony in my stomach.

If anyone could offer some advice or just a bit of support, I would appreciate it.
Thank you!

I should probably mention—though I'm not seeing much of a difference—that baking soda isn't doing much for me at all.

Does anyone know why I'm getting heartburn almost every single night—usually hitting right around 11 PM or midnight?

Try shifting your eating habits during those later hours—specifically at dinner time.

What do you guys think I should eat for dinner? I have this habit of eating way too late at night.

First off, try adjusting your internal clock.
Aim to wrap up your last meal by around 7 PM at the latest.

For me, potatoes have always been the easiest dinner option—it’s actually pretty surprising how even some french fries work out!
Then you've got things like hearty grain bowls or pasta (just skip those heavy, over-spiced sauces)...

I find it's much better to save the sweeter treats, heavier spices, and harder-to-digest foods for lunch.

I know it's tough—honestly, I slip up sometimes too. There are days when I stick to it, and other days where I regret eating at all because I didn't follow the rules.

Yeah, I totally agree, but here's the issue: my hunger usually hits hardest in the middle of the night, and I'd much rather pig out than try to go to bed starving.😁

I hear you loud and clear—but sometimes, you just have to meet in the middle.
If your gut starts "complaining" that things aren't quite right, you can't just ignore it; if those signals fade away without action, things usually just get worse over time. Your body is essentially trying to tell you it’s time for a lifestyle tweak.

Maybe try eating a full dinner, then having a little something light—like some dry toast—in the middle of the night just so you don't deal with that nasty hunger pang when you're trying to sleep.
It’s really your only real option.
