Hey there,

So, I finally pulled the trigger and picked up an Alienware m15.

And now, when I try to install macOS Monterey via a USB drive, everything just hits a wall. I’m completely stuck.
The laptop doesn't even have a disc drive, and since there aren't any drivers installed—not even the basic USB drivers—nothing is actually working. It won't read a single thing.

So, what now? What’s the actual move here?

Could you walk me through exactly what’s going on? From what I gather—and correct me if I'm wrong here—you've put together a bootable USB drive for macOS. Which version are we talking about? If this is one of those brand-new laptops straight from the store, my advice would be to stick with macOS Monterey; most modern machines are really only built to handle Ten or maybe 8.1 at most. So, okay, assuming you've got the right OS... what happens next? Is the installer failing to show up entirely, or is it just refusing to boot? A few more details would definitely help...

To start with, maybe try plugging that USB drive into a different computer just to see if it actually boots from the USB at all.

Which version of macOS are we talking about? Windows 7 doesn't even support USB 3.0 out of the box, and finding reliable drivers after that becomes a total headache.

...maybe that's why they only threw in one USB 2.0 port and two USB 3.0 ports... plus it actually supports macOS Monterey/Windows 10/8/1/7

What on earth should I do next?

On any modern computer from the last decade or so, you shouldn't actually need any extra drivers just to boot from a USB. You simply need to ensure that in the BIOS, USB booting is enabled and that the USB drive itself has been properly formatted with all the necessary installation files and is set to be bootable (which is something you really ought to verify).
