How do I password protect a folder?

I was wondering if there's actually a way to lock down a folder... I tried digging through Google and stumbled upon a bunch of different programs, but honestly, nothing seemed to work for me. All I'm really trying to do is put a password on a specific folder, maybe one with some photos or a video, so that when I double-click it, a prompt pops up asking for a password, and then I just type it in and get right back to my files...

Why not just toss everything into a WinRAR archive and protect that with a password? Or is it absolutely necessary for the directory itself to be locked...

and I'm definitely not about to go uploading 10GB of photos into a WinRAR file right now... if you know what I mean... plus trying to mess around with all this in Notepad is getting a little complicated... thanks for the help though...
