Sorry if I’m posting in the wrong sub, but I wanted to ask—how do you guys express pain? For me, I tend to be pretty blunt and constantly snap at people... it’s almost like an impulse I can't control. Everyone just gets under my skin, and I feel this constant urge to take someone down a notch, even when they're actually trying to be there for me. I know it’s not the best way to handle things, but honestly, I just can't seem to help myself. 😳

Honestly, I’ve just been burying myself at home and staying as far away from everyone as possible. I’m eating constantly, probably drinking a bit too much on top of it, and the pain triggers these sudden bursts of rage that are hard to handle. I find myself resenting pretty much everyone, though thank God I always manage to pull through somehow. They say time heals all wounds, and I’m leaning heavily into that, especially when it comes to you. I’ve been avoiding any kind of social interaction lately—it feels smarter that way, since if I don't talk to people, I can't even insult them. It’s better this way than being able to look them straight in the eye again like you can.

What kind of pain are we talking about here?

Like, if someone just treats you like garbage?😢

It’s a pretty shitty feeling when things really hurt.

I usually just shut down, retreat into my own head, and obsess over where I messed up or the exact second I let things get this far.
Then I end up being totally checked out from everyone, which usually leads to me snapping at someone else and passing that pain right along to them.

And then the whole cycle just repeats itself, I guess.

I suppose this refers to some kind of vulnerability—my own response tends toward aggression 😢 I guess I just don't care for displaying weakness, and this seems to be another way of doing exactly that...

I’ve always found that a healthy dose of Gregory House-style sarcasm works wonders for me 😁
When it comes to actual physical pain, though, I tend to swear like a sailor.

1) Occasionally—if I’m feeling off, perhaps just completely blindsided by something, or maybe I have that delayed reaction where I finally snap and end up in even more pain than before—I find myself spiraling into these intense "what if" scenarios. I spend hours mentally rehearsing how I would resolve a conflict or handle a situation if there were absolutely zero resistance from the other side. It’s quite a whirlwind, really; my moods swing wildly from deep depressions to these almost hypomanic bursts, and my appetite goes haywire, accompanied by bouts of nausea and a total disruption of my circadian rhythms due to erratic sleep patterns.

2) My defense mechanisms are, frankly, far too pronounced. There are times when I don't feel any pain at all—or rather, I'm entirely unaware that I'm even hurting—and I carry myself like a stone wall. I act perfectly fine, even upbeat, though often in a way that feels cold; my emotions go numb, my empathy takes a backseat, or my reactions become somewhat misplaced—like, say, laughing during a moment that calls for absolute gravity. But then, the reaction eventually catches up to me in a delayed fashion (unless I manage to vent it through those fantasies I mentioned earlier). At one point, I might be utterly depressed; next, I’m acting hysterically spoiled, or perhaps incredibly clingy and tearful like a child. Other times, I am simply harsh and irritable, pushing everyone away and refusing to let anyone get close. If I’m feeling aggressive, I don't want others to suffer, but I certainly won't tolerate them either; in those moments, I either bury myself in sports and my hobbies, or I simply surrender to my misery and curl up in bed.

3) I also deal with occasional psychosomatic issues—things like hives, nausea, or various digestive upsets.

!) Though, for the most part, I tend to meet all of this with a heavy dose of sarcasm and constant self-deprecation. I laugh at myself quite a bit—perhaps even a little too much, if I'm being honest.

I suppose I should check in to see if anyone out there is having a harder time than I am.🙂.

By shutting down, sulking, and avoiding everyone.
And once I finally hit my breaking point, I'll explode and lash out at everyone too—though usually, it's just the silent treatment first.

I just retreat into my own little world—staying inside my four walls, sitting there in the dark, petting my cat and having a cigarette. I don't tell anyone what’s going on or why. I'm just trying to figure out how to make this pain go away on my own terms. To me, even if I did open up to someone, they might offer some kind words of support, but that isn't going to actually solve the problem. It's just me.

I don't think I show it,
and honestly, there’s no point in anyone trying to argue with me about it. I know how my own head works better than anyone else, and frankly, hearing someone else's "advice" doesn't do squat to make me feel better. If things get rough, I feel like people are just picking at an open wound.
I'm a DIY kind of person,😁 so it's just me and time—if we can actually patch things up along the way.🙂

I guess some people find it easier to be coddled, to have someone guide them or offer sympathy, and hey, that's fine. Everyone knows what works for them, and that's all that matters.

But right now, in terms of how I express pain,—indirectly, for sure—anyone who actually knows me will notice during these stretches that there's a sort of erosion happening in my character. Or, I don't know, maybe it's just that I become more emotionally constricted. I shut down, I turn into a total introvert, and I just lose interest in everything...
On a physical level, it manifests as smoking more and eating less.

The main thing is that I eventually get through it. Always.🙂 No matter how slow my methods might be, they work for me.

For me, it usually breaks down into three distinct stages:

So, when I’m in serious pain, 😢 my first instinct is to lash out. I get cold, sarcastic, incredibly cynical, and honestly just plain rude. Once that wears off, I move on to the next phase: retreating to my room to cry while blasting some melancholy tunes 🙄. Then, as the grand finale, I try to coach myself through it and wait for the storm to pass. While I'm waiting, I try to find something productive to distract myself—usually something active like running, yoga, a long walk, or hitting a martial arts class. 🙂

As for minor aches? I don't even make a big deal out of them. It’s more like I’m just temporarily watching my life from the sidelines for a few hours. People around me don't even notice because I don't give it any weight myself.

Whether it's being betrayed by someone or losing someone close to you (death or stuff like that),
I always react the same way 🙄
I know it isn't easy for the people around me, but honestly, my mouth usually moves faster than my brain.

I usually hunt for people's weak spots—just to dig in and twist the knife.
But honestly? I only do that to the ones who’ve done me dirty first.

I know, I know—it would be better if I just didn't let them get under my skin in the first place, but sometimes you just can't help yourself.

It shows on my face immediately—I get this incredibly heavy, sad look. I find myself trying to stay out and about as much as possible, even if it’s just wandering around alone. There’s something about being lost in a crowd that makes me feel like the pain might actually fade away for a second. But even then, I end up retreating into myself. I barely say a word.

I tend to keep everything bottled up inside—so nobody ever really knows what's going on with me—but then I'll just lie around and cry, or maybe spend a few hours out in nature... or I'll call a friend and we'll talk for two or three hours straight. I guess.

When someone screws me over, it basically means I'm totally fucked.

And as for being quick-witted or whatever, I highly doubt you're any worse off than I am.

When things really, really, REALLY hurt, I just shut down completely..... 😠

First, I let myself go full throttle and blow a fuse, and honestly... anyone who gets in my way during that moment is going to have a very bad day.
After the dust settles, I’ll sit down with whoever crossed the line and we'll hash it out like adults. If we can't find common ground? Then it's over... goodbye forever.

I go through the whole cycle, don't I? There's the grieving, the tears, and then that inevitable surge of anger and protest... but eventually, you endure, and the storm passes. And honestly, things tend to move along much faster when you have dear friends by your side to talk things through with.

On the other hand, there are those people who thrive on stinging others, spreading the poison of their own pain—it's just something I can't stomach. I make it a point to distance myself from them, trying my best not to get caught in their orbit... 🙂 Because if they insist on making life miserable for themselves, they seem to think everyone else should suffer right along with them... 👎
