So, here's the deal, I've been messing around in AutoCAD and finally finished putting together a full 3D model of my house...

I was just sticking to the most basic line tool for my drafting... in 3D space, obviously...

It actually turned out pretty awesome...

Now I’m thinking about how to get those walls set to one color, then maybe switch things up with different colors for the windows and stuff like that...

How exactly would that work though...
Man, this HATCH option is driving me absolutely crazy... I’ve got these four lines forming a rectangle—basically just a wall in my 3D workspace—and no matter which shade I pick, nothing happens at all... it's like the command doesn't even register. It’s so weird because if I take that exact same wall and copy it over into a 2D view, I can color it however I want without any issues... I guess that's because once it's in 2D, the software actually recognizes it as a flat image using XY coordinates, but in 3D space, it's just completely ignoring me...

I tried turning the wall into a block to see if that would help, but honestly, I'm just spinning my wheels here... I managed to dig up a few different coloring options, but nothing is actually working the way I need it to...

Hey, can anyone throw some advice my way... I'm feeling a bit stuck on this one...

Hmm... you’re running into trouble because you’re approaching this like a standard 2D drafting job; if you stick to those old-school line-work habits, you simply won't be able to apply any color or shading. To actually get any coloring done, you really have to start utilizing the specific tools designed for 3D modeling...
I can't say for certain how things are laid out in AC 07 since I haven't spent much time in it—I've been working primarily in the 08 version lately—though I did spend some time using AutoCAD back in the day. Honestly, just go ahead and install the 08 version; I might actually be able to help you then, and frankly, I don't suspect there's a massive gulf between 07 and 08 anyway, but if you plan on sticking with this software, it would be wise to stay current so you aren't constantly playing catch-up... Cheers, and I hope I've been at least slightly useful.

alright, thanks, that’s what I figured... I probably should be leaning on those 3D tools more than I am...

I know there’s also that way to just draw a wall using a single tool, which makes things way easier...
