Hey there!

Does anyone know if it’s even possible to "rip" some cool Java or Flash animation off a website?

Is there an actual program for this, or do you just dig through the page source?
Like that ad from the forum header?

Thanks...

1. Grabbing Flash files using Google Chrome

Google Chrome for Newbies
a. Click Tools - page info
b. Click The Media Tab on The page info Windows
c. This media tab shows a full list—complete with previews—of every Image, CSS File, and Shockwave Flash object ) under The Internet address that the Google Chrome browser pulled down while it was loading the page.
d. Just scroll through that list until you spot the swf file.
e. Hit the "Save as" button. Pick a spot on your hard drive and save it—honestly, there is zero need for some sketchy third-party plug-in.

Google Chrome for Geeks and Power Users
a. Type about:blank in the Chrome address bar
b. Now click List cache entries or just type about:cache?device=disk (Disk cache device)
c. Use Ctrl+F to hunt down the flash file by typing a piece of the site's URL, the filename, or even just ".swf". It takes a bit of trial and error, but you'll eventually nail that swf file URL.
d. Click the SWF URL to pull up the cache entry Information page. Right-click the link and pick "Save link as"

2. How to save flash in the Edge browser

a. Click Tools - Internet Options
b. Go to the General Tab and hit the Settings button inside the Temporary Internet Files section.
c. Click View Files to pop open your Temporary Internet Files folder. Depending on your Edge settings, this Temp folder might be cluttered with tens of thousands of files.
d. Click View - Details. Now click View - Arrange Icons by - Internet Address. Depending on whatever page you're looking at, you might find one or several Flash files (Shockwave Flash object ) under The Internet address.
e. Once you track down the right flash file, right-click it and select Copy. Then just paste that swf file into a different folder. Make sure to
leave the page and Edge running so the cache doesn't purge itself on you.

If you're a newbie, I'd just recommend these instead:
1. Grab a download accelerator like Flashget and set it to automatically grab any shockwave extension (*.swf)
2. Or just find a free Edge plug-in designed specifically for saving flash files.

I can't be bothered to translate this right now—maybe later tonight.

Java:

For example, take http://javaboutique.internet.com/Absolute/index.html
1. First, you'll want to download that webpage.
2. Then, just check the page source and hunt down this specific line of code:
<APPLET CODE="Absolute.class" width="500" height="400"></APPLET>
3. You also need to grab the Absolute.class file (sometimes there's an xxx.jar file too, so maybe grab that one as well).

So, once you have everything, you'll have index.html and Absolute.class sitting on your computer. To get that Java applet running, I guess you just open index.html in your web browser (like Edge or Google Chrome...)

e. Once you’ve actually located the correct flash file, right-click it and hit Copy. Then, paste that swf file into a different directory. And please, make sure to
keep the webpage and Edge open—unless you want the cache file to get purged before you're done.

If you're a total newbie, I'd probably recommend these routes instead:
1. Grab a download accelerator like Flashget and set it to automatically snag any shockwave extension (*.swf)
2. Or just find a free Edge plug-in designed specifically for saving flash files.
