How to edit text in a PDF?

So, how do I actually edit some text inside a PDF? It was originally just a table I whipped up in Microsoft Word, but now that it’s a PDF, I’m stuck... Every single time I try to convert the file back into Microsoft Word to fix things, the whole thing just falls apart, and the formatting gets totally trashed, messing up my fonts and the entire design...
I ended up downloading Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro, but I’m honestly having zero luck finding where the actual text editing tools are hidden in this thing?!
Can someone please save me here...

I've been using it both at my house and in my office for quite some time now... honestly, it performs best when you're trying to move data into Excel, though it handles transitions to Microsoft Word just fine too. You have the flexibility to select exactly which section you need and even adjust the range manually if things get messy...

Just make the changes in Microsoft Word and then save it as a new PDF. Wait, you don't have the original Word doc? Big mistake! You should always hang onto the original file.
Try copying the content or opening it in Microsoft Word, fixing the layout there, and saving it as a Word doc—especially if you think you'll need to tweak it again later.
Technically, you can delete or add text directly in a PDF, but it's such a headache trying to match the exact font and quality so it doesn't look obvious.

So I tried opening the thing in Microsoft Word, but the second I try to tweak any of the text, the whole table just loses its mind... all the rows and columns start shifting everywhere and the entire layout completely falls apart whenever I make an edit. I think I’m just gonna have to copy everything over and rebuild the tables from scratch to save my sanity...

is probably your best bet for that.

Give the TouchUp text tool within the Advanced editing tools in Adobe Acrobat a shot. If you're just looking to make some minor tweaks, it should do the trick.
Otherwise, if you have Adobe Illustrator handy, just open it there.

Or maybe just use Adobe Reader
