Hello there. I recently picked up a laptop that came pre-installed with Linux, and I've been attempting to install Windows on it, but I seem to have run into a bit of a snag... I guess I might have overstepped something. Initially, a Linux window pops up and starts running some processes, but nothing actually loads. I went into the BIOS to set the boot priority to the DVD drive and inserted my Windows installation disc, but instead of booting from the disc, it just loops right back to that Linux window and the GNU GRUB menu. I did a little digging on Google regarding GNU GRUB and managed to find my way into a command prompt where I typed in rootnoverify, but now it's just throwing a "no boot device" error at me. I'm feeling a little lost on how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I honestly have no clue what you did there—Linux isn't really my thing... But once you set the CD/DVD drive as the primary boot device in the BIOS and saved those settings, you should have seen a prompt asking you to "press any key to start installation." After that, the Windows setup process should kick in automatically. Have you tried popping that Windows disc into another computer just to see if it boots? It’s possible the disc itself isn't bootable.

Honestly, I’m not even sure what I was thinking, which is probably why I ended up in this mess to begin with. I managed to get the system booting again by switching the BIOS settings from "UEFI" to "Legacy," and that finally let the installation kick off. So, I've got Windows 7 running now, but of course, that just opened the door to a whole new set of headaches! I can't find drivers for half of my hardware. I went straight to the Acer website to look for my specific model, but they aren't offering anything for this OS—it’s just a bunch of drivers for Windows 8... I’ve tried hunting around the web quite a bit, but no luck so far. I suppose I'll try installing an OS for Larry Ortiz5 next to see if that clears things up...🤦

Yeah, honestly... next time you're shopping for a laptop, just make sure to double-check which operating systems are actually supported on the manufacturer's website first...
