I’m 27 years old, and honestly, I feel pretty lonely more often than I’d like to admit—even though I’ve actually become way more social than I used to be. The real kicker is that it seems like my intentions and my actions constantly get totally misinterpreted by everyone else.

So, how does one actually find a more liberated way of living? How do I build up enough grit to face life head-on?

There isn't one. If you aren't just another face in the crowd—if you actually have an intellect and refuse to be mediocre—people are going to misread you. That's why most people keep their mouths shut and stick to small talk about football, the weather, cooking, kids, or work. You eventually just get tired of defending your perspective.

Do you think people are actually misinterpreting you, or are they just fundamentally disagreeing with what you're saying?

The first question we should probably ask this guy is: are you actually independent?

Secondly—what kind of "views" are we even talking about here?

If you’re still just coasting through life—and dumping all those existential, anti-work philosophies on your parents who don't get you—then you're just taking advantage of them. They're stuck with you because they're your parents and they feel bad seeing you like this, so they just endure it because they feel obligated to—instead of pushing you to find some real work and finally cut the umbilical cord.

I’m not living on my own right now. I work as a small business owner, and honestly, I try to stay out of the house as much as possible because being home just makes me feel low

I've been thinking. Maybe find a better job so I can move somewhere new? It’s all a bit confusing, though... I seem to spend way too much time being lovesick and miserable over people

Are your folks breathing down your neck too much about stuff? Like, are they trying to control everything you do?

Look, just keep your actual opinions for your inner circle—your closest people, anyway. To everyone else? Just play it cool and stay totally neutral. Trust me, you'll find it way easier to breathe if you don't make it your business to argue with everybody all the time.

I think I’ve pinpointed exactly where the issue lies—honestly, I probably gave you about 90% of the answer already.

Falling in love isn't always something you can control. Sometimes it just happens—and other times, if you catch yourself before the romantic thoughts take over, you can simply... rationalize it. I’ve been there myself, stuck in an unhappy crush once. I don't want to strip away the sentimentality for you, but love isn't something you hunt down; it just finds you.

Carl Rivera43, I think you realize exactly what needs to be done and what your next big move should be. I’ve done my part—now it's up to you to take the reins.

So, what—are you just gonna sit there, locked in your room, waiting for love to magically drop through the ceiling? Like it’s some kind of lightning strike or a freaking Uber Eats delivery? Give me a break. You actually think things just happen by themselves? Honestly, if you want something—especially something like love—you have to actually put in the work. You have to go out there and make an effort. It doesn't just manifest while you're staring at a screen, does it?

Honestly, things at home aren't even really weighing on me anymore since I barely talk much lately... I’m just trying my best to chill out, but man, it's harder than it looks. And as for my love life? Well, let's just say I tend to go way too hard, too fast.

It’s probably because deep down you know you shouldn't be acting like that—like they’ve basically brainwashed you into thinking you can't ever just relax around them. Every single interaction feels like a freaking interrogation.

And that’s exactly why your dating life is a mess, too. Between your parents trying to hand-pick who you date and everything else, you end up subconsciously feeling like nobody will ever actually meet their standards. So, you end up nitpicking every single person you meet, looking for any tiny flaw just to justify it.

I'm telling you, if there's any way you can move out, just do it. Get some distance and start getting out into the world.

I’m going to quote Frank Zappa—for you and for everyone else like you;

"If you're going to face reality, you have to come to one big realization: reality is something that belongs to you as an individual. If you want to grow up—which most people don't—you have to do one thing, and that is take responsibility for your own reality and face it on your own terms. Don't expect that just because you're paying someone else, or taking some oath to join a club, or running down the street, or wearing a pile of clothes, or playing some sport, that it's going to take care of things for you. If you end up with a boring and pathetic life because you listened to your father, your mother, your teacher, a priest, or some guy on TV telling you how to fix your shit, then you deserve it."

Carl Rivera43. So—what's your move?

Zappa hit the nail on the head.

See, here’s my thing. I really want to step up and take action, you know? But I just struggle to find my footing when the pressure starts mounting. It’s even harder when I look around and realize there's just way too much going on that I can't control. How do you even deal with that?

I guess I’m just one of those people who takes a little longer to settle into a new environment. That makes the weight feel so much heavier sometimes. Especially when it feels like I'm just two steps away from making it happen, only to have it slip right through my fingers.

All you really need to do is answer your own call and take some kind of st

What you're describing—these excuses—are nothing more than ways to delay a better life. And excuses aren't particularly helpful, especially when they serve only to block your path to happiness and fulfillment

You don't actually have any excuses

Mayor, I see exactly what you're getting at. It's all about desire. You want it, but you don't know how to make the move. How do you actually get there? I see you. That's why you've always been such a smooth talker. Look at me right now—there's a woman here at the post office drinking her Coca-Cola, but how can I, damn it? I'm here on business. I can't just switch gears when this is my job. I know I probably just need to relax, but when there are a hundred women and a hundred different vibes... one reacts like this, another like that. You just can't tell. You can think about it all you want, but you'll never truly grasp it until you find the right one. Personally, I've always liked women with deeper voices; those high-pitched types just don't click with me. There has to be something sexy in her eyes. And we've talked about this before—the costs involved when you're flying solo, but now it isn't that simple. And don't listen to Zappa or any other wise guys. Create your own slogan instead of using someone else's, for heaven's sake. Your own life motto. As for the apartment, it'll come; you just have to put in the work. People say, "just find a better job." But how? I didn't go to college, just like you. High school grad turned entrepreneur. Thank God for that. But if I had moved away, it would be just like what we discussed—everything would have changed. You remind me of myself when I was 23; I was thinking the exact same things. Back then, I had a little cash and thought about investing in stocks, just casually, maybe via $67. And who you talk to about these things matters. Everyone told me, "You need a mountain of cash for that, are you crazy?" But if you have the money, you do it. I missed my shot. If I had been smarter back then, in those years, and bought eBay stock when I did, I'd be a millionaire today. So, always make sure to get advice from someone who actually understands your goals and your priorities. Life is tough right now, and that's okay, but it's hard to make moves when you have elderly parents at home. It's a constant struggle. Start looking around more, seeing how people manage to pull themselves up. Surround yourself with people who are stronger than you, not weaker, because you won't move forward otherwise. Don't look back at the past; look ahead toward the future. That's just how it is.

It all really boils down to why you aren't free—it’s different for everyone.
For some folks, it might just be a few hurdles to clear, but for others? It feels like basically anything that doesn't go their way.

Stop nitpicking over every little detail and just stay on topic. If you guys have some petty disagreement or need to clear something up, do yourselves a favor and take it to the DMs instead. 😉
