I’ve decided to drop by Reddit because I honestly wasn't sure where else to turn, and I’ve heard from good things that you all are quite talented at solving—well, let's call it "offering advice" on—various life problems...
😉
To give you the full picture, I should probably walk you through everything chronologically...
To start off... I’m 18 years old...
=====Problem Description=====
This whole thing started when I was about 12 or 13... it all kicked off during gym class, which I used to absolutely love. We were playing volleyball, and I went up for a block, but when I landed, I accidentally stepped right on a teammate's foot. He was totally fine, but my ankle immediately swelled up like a watermelon. To make a long story short... I ended up stuck in leg braces for about eight months, even though nothing was actually broken!
During those eight months, I put on some weight... it started out slow, but then it just kept climbing. By the time my leg finally healed, I was—to put it bluntly—a pretty chubby kid, which was something I really struggled with... 😠
That was my reality... I moved through freshman year, sophomore year... and now I've hit junior year of high school...
(Since I'm a huge sports nut, I spent most of my time training with my local soccer club, but during the end of freshman and the start of sophomore year, I gradually phased out soccer and switched over to tennis... so eventually, I transitioned fully to just tennis.)
===End of description===
So, here I am in my third year of high school, and we did the weigh-in at the start of the term... the scale read 205 lbs 👎 (I'm about 6'1"). Thankfully, I wasn't the heaviest person in class; there's one guy who makes me look like a lightweight by comparison... 🤣
That was the moment I realized I had to change something... but I didn't actually get serious about it until mid-June 2010. I spent time browsing the internet, doing the usual research, and someone from Herbalife even came by our club to do those nutritional tests and whatnot... but once I saw the price tag, it was a non-starter for me and my parents, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
The rule was: NO EATING after 4 PM, minimal sweets, and generally avoiding anything "heavy."
I pushed and pushed, and I finally managed to hit 209 lbs... wait, I mean, I dropped down to 209 lbs? No, I dropped 28 lbs down to 200 lbs... actually, I dropped 13kg (about 28 lbs) in four months and was incredibly happy with the progress... BUT, for this last month, the scale hasn't budged an inch.
My amateur theory is that I've successfully "cleansed" my system of everything... and now I'm just left staring at the one thing we all know too well: stubborn fat! 😠
Right now, I'm relatively happy with how I look; I look okay, pretty normal, and if I'm being honest, I actually look somewhat athletic... 😕
Everything is great as long as I have clothes on...
But once the clothes come off, the reality sets in... just below my chest (in the abdominal area), I have a significant amount of that famous belly fat. Because it's soft, if I press on it, I can actually feel the muscles underneath—nice, well-defined abs. I know this sounds a bit silly, but since I'm constantly active, I've actually started doing daily ab workouts again for the last two and a half months. Every morning, afternoon, and before bed, I do a quick circuit of about 65-70 regular crunches, 15 side crunches per side, and 25 leg raises...
I also have fat on my legs—quite a lot on the inner thighs, whereas my calves and shins seem mostly fine. And on my arms, specifically around the triceps and under the armpits down to the elbow, there's more fat there too...
So, three main trouble spots: stomach, thighs, & armpits!
I'm at a loss... maybe there are specific exercises for these areas???
If you provide any suggestion that actually makes sense, I will follow it to a T...
Because I truly don't know what else to do...
Current status:
209 lbs,
6'1".
Goal status:
183 lbs,
6'2" (really hoping for a late growth spurt 😁 ).
THANKS for reading, and an even bigger thanks in advance for any replies!
😉
P.S
Please, let’s not get carried away talking about all those extreme supplements... if you truly want to lose weight, you're going to have to do it THROUGH PERSONAL DISCIPLINE!
