I have several computers all networked together in a single group, and I am looking for a way to enable email functionality across this local area network.

Is there a specific software application or perhaps a particular configuration method that would facilitate this?

I mean, what does WhatsApp have to do with email? It's like comparing apples to oranges, right?

I wasn't actually looking for LAN messenger.

I went ahead and downloaded this Microsoft Outlook server software and got it installed.

The questions are as follows:

Is this actually how one goes about building their very first server?

What is the correct way to configure Microsoft Outlook properly?

Once the server is up and running, how does one go about sending emails?

Honestly, everything you're looking for is laid out right there in the documentation for the Microsoft Outlook server setup.

I’m hitting a bit of a wall with this SMTP layer component. It remains somewhat opaque to me—specifically, I am struggling to grasp exactly what information needs to be entered into this particular section.

Once I have finished configuring the Microsoft Outlook server, what is the subsequent step? I suspect I might require some additional software to bridge the gap.

I went ahead and downloaded XAMPP, but I am at a loss as to how one actually establishes a connection between these elements.

I mean, why would you even bother with XMPP?

Look, using hMailServer means you've got your whole SMTP, POP3, and IMAP setup covered... you can send and receive emails from basically any mail client you want, not just through a web browser. It's like having your own little private post office right on your desk.

And if you're asking whether you can link things up... sure, you totally can. All you really need is Gmail.
