IMDb Music Section

So, I’ve been wondering—is there actually a site out there similar to IMDb, but specifically dedicated to songs, albums, singers, or bands?

I wasn't quite sure where this question belonged, so I decided to just start a new thread here. 😁

If anyone happens to know of something like that, I would be incredibly grateful for the recommendation!!!

Rate Your Music It operates on a different logic than AllMusic—it’s a whole different beast entirely. But honestly? It’s an incredible site. Once you spend a few minutes digging through it, you'll see exactly what I mean. 😉

I’d also throw in Sputnikmusic —I actually think it's a great site.

Thanks for providing those links, though they don't quite hit the mark for what I'm looking for. I was really hoping for a more straightforward way to search through tracks and quickly pull up an average rating—something a bit more intuitive, you know? Still, I'll definitely keep those sites in my back pocket for later.

As far as I can tell, what hollowsailor48 mentioned are pretty much the most comprehensive databases out there—they're actually quite useful 🙂

Sure, they might be thorough and functional, but I have to wonder—is it really the most efficient way? Do I really want to head over there, hunt down a specific track by searching through an artist's discography, and then navigate through a sea of existing links on the page, only to potentially end up lost in a maze of confusing redirects or missing the actual review rating altogether? It feels a bit convoluted, doesn't it?

The site itself is perfectly fine, but I was really hoping for something a bit more seamless—something where I could just type a quick query into Google:

For instance, Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles (Site Name)

and have the very first link lead me straight to the song's rating.

Honestly, why bother worrying about what some critic thinks of a track? You’ve got your own ears for a reason, so just sit back, listen to the music, and decide for yourself how it hits. 🤷

I suppose I could spend my life just following everyone else's "best of" lists and top charts to decide what to play—and, of course, I could look at how songs were received globally to gauge their popularity.

That said, finding something decent through a solid recommendation is usually easier. You have to start somewhere, and it's better than just blindly stumbling into whatever's playing at random. 😉

Of course, none of those sites actually give you the full picture. Personally, I find Discogs to be the gold standard, though even they are missing a huge amount of specific pressings...

http://www.allmusic.com/ has basically turned into a clone of IMDb.
I don't see any user reviews yet—but who knows? Maybe they'll roll those out soon...

Honestly, I think it's more bad than good.
+ Search bar suggestions are helpful
+ Bio and discography aren't separated anymore
+ Discography browser is now right under the album review

- You have to scroll for an eternity just to get through a discography
- The page elements feel way too oversized
- General layout and overall aesthetic

That's just my initial take 🙂

Metalstorm is great, assuming that’s your kind of music.

Out of the big names, AllMusic is surprisingly decent—not total garbage like Rolling Stone.

In my humble opinion, this is easily the best

Last.fm has this massive flaw where it fails to distinguish between different artists sharing the same name. It just tosses them all into one big bucket—which makes it impossible to tell who actually belongs to whom. Plus, honestly, the whole platform isn't even particularly reliable to begin with.

Yeah, but thankfully those kinds of situations are actually pretty rare
as for how reliable it is, I’m not so sure I agree... personally, I feel like it gives a pretty great overview of a band, especially when you want to see what their standout tracks are, since everything is neatly organized by play counts and how much people are actually listening to them

Last.fm isn't perfect, but you can't say it's unreliable. Still, though... it's nowhere near being the IMDb of music.
