Insane ban from user Fortinbras

Moderator Fortin is jumping down my throat again, for god knows what reason, while I'm just commenting on a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with him:

After I made a quick remark—trying to steer the conversation away from who had the faster car back in 2018 and sticking to the 2021 race instead—moderator Fortin just went off on me. He straight up insulted me, calling me some kind of delusional hater;

I shot back, telling him there are plenty of people out there who hate more than I do:

And what does he do? Hands me a direct three-day ban. It’s pretty obvious he was looking for a fight, ignoring my suggestions to stop rehashing old debates, and then used his power to insult me and kick me off. I’m asking for him to be removed.

If this guy has such a massive problem with me just because I don't root for the same driver he does, it shows. I mean, look at the track record—out of all the recent warnings, even though I'm active on four different sub-forums using the exact same tone everywhere else, I only ever get flagged by him.

As someone who used to be a moderator myself, this kind of behavior is bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. Total amateur hour.

Just so you know before I even dive into the actual appeal, I wanted to let you know that the ban is only for twenty-four hours.

I’ve been hanging around here since 2004, and if they ever recovered my deleted posts, I’d probably have over 60k of them. In all that time, I’ve never had a single issue with any moderator, except for Ferrari. I used to moderate two different sub-forums—back in my day, we had more distinct sections even if you count soccer as one—and our golden rule was simple: you don't hand out cards or bans to the guy you're actually arguing with. You let a colleague who isn't emotionally involved handle the discipline. This is the second time Ferrari has slapped me with a ban during a direct argument, right after jumping down my throat just because his favorite driver is the target of my criticism. Meanwhile, he lets other people throw even harsher critiques at drivers he actually likes without handing out a single penalty. Formula 1 is massive globally, with half a billion people tuning in weekly, and there are plenty of major US sports sites covering it. But on the biggest American racing forum, the F1 section is just a tiny group of regulars, mostly because anyone with half a brain stays away once they realize what the "vibe" is. And the vibe is trash moderation where Ferrari constantly drags discussions back to the same chewed-up topics, annoys everyone, and honestly... I wouldn't say he's trolling, he just doesn't know how to communicate properly. His standards are questionable; a couple of favorites get to do whatever they want while everyone else gets punished for no reason.

Bans and warnings are just part of being a long-time forum veteran. It’s neither my first nor my last time dealing with them—I handed them out myself when I was a mod—but after all these years, I know when moderation has hit rock bottom. That's where we are now. A mod should be a pillar of stability and a peacemaker, not some infantile grudge-holder who jumps at users using all caps and internet slang like they're screaming in someone's face. Even though my silence won't exactly break that sub-forum, I'm joining the exodus; I'm not posting there again as long as the moderation stays this pathetic. I'm still filing the appeal, though, just so someone else can try to talk some sense into that mod.
