Alright, here’s the deal. I’ve got a gym session scheduled for tonight.
Sometimes I do some light cardio on the treadmill in the morning, but since the intensity is pretty low and I actually want to stay in shape, I want to switch things up...
My plan is to knock out ten 50m sprints, followed by about 40-45 minutes of moderate-intensity running...
I used to play basketball, so my conditioning is solid; I know I can handle the load...
So, I need some advice on where to slot this sprint and run combo into my schedule...
I’ve read that hitting high-intensity cardio first thing in the morning isn't the best move, so would it be okay to do it after my evening weight session instead? My afternoons are completely booked...
So it's either morning or night...
Looking for some actual, useful answers here...

Since I was playing basketball until recently, my conditioning is decent, so I don't think I'll have any trouble handling it...

I read somewhere that hitting high-intensity cardio first thing in the morning isn't ideal, so would it be okay to do this after my evening weight session instead? My afternoons are completely booked...
So basically, it's either morning or night...
Anyway, hoping for some actual, useful feedback here...

Here is how I used to handle my evenings:

A 10-minute warm-up, maybe a light jog...
Then three rounds of bodyweight exercises, performed back-to-back without rest...
For example: 10 squats, 10 pull-ups, 10 jumps, 10 push-ups, 10 burpees, then a 30-60 second break before repeating the circuit two more times...
After that, I'd hit 10 or 15 sprints over about 30 meters...
And then, inevitably, I'd be puking...
😁

Sometimes I'd also go for a run at, say, 7.5 miles, but just as fast as I could manage...

My plan is to hit 10 sprints of 50 meters each, and then follow that up with about 40-45 minutes of running—let's call it moderate intensity...
Since I used to play basketball until recently, I've still got some stamina, so I don't think I'll have any trouble handling it...
So, I'm looking for some help on where to fit this sprint + running workout into my routine..
I read somewhere that doing super intense cardio in the morning isn't exactly recommended, so would it be okay if I did it after my evening gym session instead? I just can't make afternoons work at all...
Basically, it's either morning or evening...
Anyway, I'm hoping someone can give me a solid answer...

Honestly, nobody else can tell you exactly where to slot those in except for you.
You're the one who knows your own schedule best.

Just make sure it's as far away from your weightlifting sessions as possible.
Besides, HIIT doesn't actually take up much time, and HIIT is a really intense way to get your cardio in.

Definitely keep it away from weight sessions.

I know about HIIT, but I'm not sure if doing it in the morning is a good idea. Didn't I read somewhere that you need at least two meals before starting? I can't do it in the afternoon.

Like I was saying, you're the only one who truly knows your own schedule.
Nobody else can just step in and figure out your timing for you.
And no, definitely don't do it on an empty stomach, but once you've had that first meal down, you should be fine.

I'm guessing you aren't hitting the gym every single day anyway, so you should be able to find some time that works.

So HIIT is fine after my first meal in the morning... great, problem solved. No more debating it.
thanks
