Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started taking interferon four days ago—now I'm constantly hitting fevers of 102 degrees. Is this ever going to stop? And if so, when? If anyone knows what to expect, I would be incredibly grateful for some help.🙏

I mean, if I were you, I’d probably be expecting some kind of side effects from the proc after a few days have passed...
Just figured I'd offer a little bit of comfort before someone actually more qualified jumps in here to give you an answer...🙂

I really hope so—thanks either way. I’m already feeling a bit better, actually. Just getting ready to head out now so I can apologize in person.🙂

Hey, my bad, I had no idea they used interferon to treat stuff other than the Red Cross cases. 🤷 Seriously, first time hearing that. Anyway, it’s totally normal to run a fever for the first few days. How long is your treatment supposed to last?

It’s been 2 years—honestly, I felt a lot better today. My fever only hit 103 late in the afternoon, and even then, it wasn't too bad. How are things going with you?

And honestly, I’m nowhere near starting therapy yet... There are massive waiting lists at the Red Cross just to get on interferon treatments. Since my liver enzyme levels are totally normal right now, I’m in no rush; I’d much rather wait a couple of years and see if they come up with something better... To be real, the thought of all those side effects actually scares me.

I’m not even sure if it’s the exact same medication—maybe there’s a slight difference? Honestly, if it's just a fever, I can probably tough it out until it hits 98.6. I've heard it might cause hair loss, too. Do you have MSN?

I’m finally nearing the end of my treatment, and man, it has absolutely wrecked me—both mentally and physically. I honestly don't feel like the same person anymore. I’m praying everything just resets and goes back to normal, because that was seriously nasty. I don't want to scare anyone off—everyone's journey is different—but God, I just hope this works. I am so close to the finish line, and I can't take much more; I just want my life back because this whole experience... it’s left me feeling broken, and it’s taken a toll on everyone around me too. But hey, I’m actually really proud of myself for hanging in there. PRO TIP: You absolutely, 100% NEED support and empathy from your inner circle, or... forget about it. I basically had to do this ALONE. WISHING SO MUCH LUCK TO ANYONE TAKING THIS STEP. My situation was a bit of a "tough one," but that doesn't mean it'll be the same for everyone, so—COME ON, STAY BRAVE!

So, just... stay strong. Let's do this.

Man, I've only been at this for two months and I'm already signing my name to every single word of this.😕

Do people dealing with severe, chronic allergies ever take interferon?

I spent two years on an interferon regimen—injections every other night, mind you—and I made it a ritual to take some Tylenol right before each dose. If I ever skipped the acetaminophen? Man, my fever would spike almost instantly. It was a total necessity. I was under strict supervision from my doctor the whole time, and honestly, that little preemptive strike with the pain reliever was the only way I could manage the temperature spikes. We’re talking two full years of this routine, and yet I know there are people out there who stay on these treatments for nearly their entire lives, depending on what they're actually fighting.

Can anyone tell me if interferon is covered by insurance or if you have to pay out of pocket? I’ve got this great person in my life whose doctor keeps recommending it, but the cost is just... wow, it's insanely expensive for her. Her doctor isn't even sure if it'll be covered under Medicare or if she's stuck with the bill itself.😕

Interferon often brings along side effects that feel remarkably like a heavy flu; I suppose you might deal with high fevers, muscle aches, or just this overwhelming sense of fatigue...
Since there are so many different types of interferon being developed constantly, and they're used for such a wide range of conditions, things get complicated—it’s hard to say for sure if you can just get it with a prescription. In the US, even though certain drugs are approved for specific illnesses, getting them covered can be a real headache because insurance companies, like Medicare, don't always agree that using a drug for a particular condition is actually necessary or justified, so they won't foot the bill.
So, I guess the real question of whether you can actually get hold of interferon really comes down to asking a specialist, since everything depends entirely on your specific diagnosis.

So, Terry Martinez55 finally weighed in. Basically, it all comes down to whatever your specific diagnosis ends up being.

Ashley Thompson74 — how were you handling the interferon injections? Did you deal with anything besides just running a fever? And was that fever just during the initial adjustment period, or did it happen every single time you injected over those two years?

Hello everyone,
I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and am currently on a course of corticosteroids, though I really should be starting interferon. The problem is that Medicare won't approve the interferon until a full year has passed since my diagnosis, and by then, the damage might already be done. I could easily go abroad and get access to it immediately. Honestly, I'm torn—I'm worried about the side effects, but I also wonder if I can truly trust this medication or if I should just risk going without it. Does anyone have any advice?
