Internet connection issues

The Internet2 connection at my dorm via Ethernet was running fine until early this morning, but now it’s completely dead. Previously, I occasionally had to manually input an IP address because the DHCP would default to the wrong one

which usually did the trick. Now, even that isn't working. Every troubleshooting attempt just returns a vague error stating it can't find anything. It’s likely they’ve updated the network to a different IP range, and the auto-configuration is failing to detect it. Does anyone know of a utility that can scan to see which specific IP addresses and default gateways are actually active on the network?

macOS is just throwing out that 169.254.x.x address on its own—that's basically a dead end. The other one is being handed out dynamically, which makes manual entry a total pain since you’d have to guess a valid, available IP. Might be a bit of a bottleneck with the campus Wi-Fi if everyone's logged on at once and there aren't enough addresses to go around... For the real details, just hit up the university IT guys.
