I know the drill—you call them up to swap out your router, but my situation is a bit of a mess. Right now, I’m stuck with 10 Mbps because I’m way too far from the local hub, which they use as an excuse to keep me on a slower plan. But here's the kicker: I've had this exact speed for over a year without any issues, yet lately, the connection has been dropping constantly. It works perfectly fine all day long, but once evening hits, it just dies and starts dropping like crazy. Honestly, I feel like I'm getting the runaround. Anyone got some actual advice on how to handle them?

If your provider's central office was hitting capacity, you'd just see speeds tanking in the evenings. But if the connection is actually dropping out? That’s more likely due to interference from new VDSL users jumping on that same long stretch of cable (it's an SNR margin issue).
A buddy of mine dealt with something similar by switching over to a mobile Xfinity Gateway... honestly, that might be a solid move for you too since you wouldn't be tethered to that old, long line anymore.

ps: You didn't mention who your ISP is, what modem you're running, or even drop a screenshot of your DSL stats....

To get things moving, you should probably log in to your router first, http://192.168.1.1/, find those line parameters, and then just drop a screenshot right here so we can all take a look and chat about it.

Honestly, you’re likely going to need a technician to come out and physically inspect everything—checking all the connections, the terminal points, and your specific DSL port at the local exchange. If the stats look perfectly fine on paper but suddenly tank once the evening rush hits, then we've found our culprit. It usually boils down to issues within the underground cabling; since AT&T transitioned everyone over to VDSL, we're dealing with a much higher frequency spectrum that was previously untouched, and now everyone starts interfering with each other's signals the moment people turn on their TVs or start heavy downloading in the evenings...

There isn't really a "fix" for that kind of thing, unfortunately, because you're going to run into this issue regardless of which provider you use. If they can't actually resolve the underlying connection problem, the technician might be able to get you approved for a Spectrum mini setup or some mobile data as a workaround.
