Right at the start, you see Nelson Mandela—a man who spent 27 years behind bars just for fighting against apartheid—stepping up as the President of a South Africa that's still struggling with massive divisions.

I couldn't agree more—this is exactly the point!
It’s one of those rare films I actually sat through twice in such a short span—and I mean really sat through it, not just let it play in the background. Morgan Freeman is nothing short of a genius in this, absolutely carrying the weight of it. Surprisingly, Matt Damon was actually tolerable too, which is saying something. But honestly? It’s that atmosphere that really gets you. Just beautiful. 🙏 😍

I’ve always had a massive amount of respect for Clint Eastwood—both when he's behind the camera and in front of it—so I am genuinely looking forward to finally sitting down with this film.

This movie is a total snooze fest, and honestly, I don't think Nelson Mandela says a single normal sentence in the whole thing. It’s just constant, over-the-top philosophical preaching that feels totally fake to me.

On a different note, I’m definitely not complaining that 😍Matt Damon😍 flashed his torso for a few seconds here and there—it’s always a treat to see him looking like that. But yeah, obviously, he’s also trying to tackle the heavy stuff like fighting racism and systemic segregation through his acting.

But if we’re being real, the entire movie is basically just one giant rugby match. They completely missed the mark on showing the actual struggle of segregation or why this moment actually mattered for change; instead, it’s just a game of rugby, and then suddenly everyone is happy because the USA wins the championship. Like, people would have been a lot happier if they actually liked each other before the game even started! At the end of the day, the movie is just lukewarm, and no matter how much they lean on > or pile on those cheesy inspirational quotes, it just fails to hit the mark.

I have to say, I absolutely loved this movie. It’s been quite a while since I’ve experienced such a perfectly balanced cinematic rhythm.
Morgan Freeman was his usual stellar self, though I must admit, I’m a bit baffled by the Academy Award nomination for Matt Damon (I suppose having about five lines of dialogue, a brief shirtless scene, and a fair amount of running around is enough to secure a nod these days), whereas, in my estimation, the insurance boss was actually a much more "significant" character.

Anyway, Clint Eastwood continues to prove he still has that incredible knack for directing.

Haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but I'm really hoping Clint Eastwood doesn't let me down... he hasn't so far.

It was honestly so dull I actually drifted off halfway through... just a mediocre flick with a plot you could see coming from a mile away. The script was pretty weak, too. In my opinion, this is easily Clint Eastwood's worst outing. His biggest blunder was definitely casting Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela; the performance just didn't land, which felt like a fundamental error in casting choice right out of the gate.

Look, I’m not exactly some die-hard sports fanatic or anything, but I just have this thing where I love watching movies if I know Clint Eastwood was behind them. Honestly? He didn't disappoint, even though my expectations were pretty high. And Morgan Freeman was just incredible—for a second there, I actually forgot it was him 😁 All in all, it’s definitely worth a watch... though that haka dance? Total madness!

Such a fantastic movie... I actually watched this one and The Blind Side just a few days apart, and honestly, if you ask me, both deserved the Academy Award for Best Picture way more than The Hurt Locker did—but hey, I guess everyone’s entitled to their own opinion...

Even though we all know things aren't always perfect here in the States, I can't help but think that if it hadn't been for Nelson Mandela, things might be looking even worse today, and this was really just one small chapter of that whole incredible story... it was just so beautifully told by the legendary Clint Eastwood.

It was such an incredible movie... Honestly, I can't wrap my head around why it didn't even get a Best Picture nod at the Academy Awards... It just feels like a total oversight to me.
I'm right there with Larry Rivera83 on this one; I feel like both Invictus and The Blind Side might actually be the best films we've seen in the last couple of years... They felt like real, substantial movies, you know? It honestly drives me a little crazy how many mediocre, half-baked films seem to get all the attention lately instead of actual cinema.

Just watched the movie and... I'm torn.
The acting is top-tier—Morgan Freeman basically can't act a bad scene if he tried, and Matt Damon is solid too.
Story is alright, though you pretty much see how it ends right from the jump.
Nelson Mandela (like someone already mentioned) just doesn't talk like a regular person. Every single line is some deep philosophy—even when he’s talking to his daughter, the maid... or the security guards...
Then, toward the end, there are these super cheesy, cliché, over-the-top reconciliation scenes: the cops with the Black kid, a white guy (dressed like he's straight out of an old segregation era movie) hugging a Black guard, and then those two hands—one white and one Black—holding up the trophy... personally, I thought showing everyone cheering for the football team was plenty enough—but hey, Clint Eastwood is an American after all. 🙂

Overall, it's a decent watch, but nothing mind-blowing. If this weren't about the legendary Nelson Mandela and was just some made-up character, it would've been a totally mediocre flick.

I guess timing is everything when it comes to movies. I happened to borrow the DVD and watched it on Monday, then on Tuesday night, ESPN aired a documentary that basically complements the film—since Morgan Freeman produced it—covering those same events with commentary from the actual people involved. It even included real footage from games, streets, and local spots. It’s a great movie that stays true to the real story. 👍

That was an incredible movie; I honestly loved every second of it.👍
