Is everything becoming just another AI chatbot?

It feels like every specialized tool that actually solved real-world problems is being cannibalized to feed the hunger for more LLMs. I really miss when tech was about deep, specific breakthroughs instead of just making better conversationalists. Does anyone else feel like we're trading genuine scientific progress for better UI?
