I was browsing some gear reviews the other day and it hit me how much "stuff" we’ve all collectively decided we need just to survive a layover. It feels like every time I go to a store, there's a new, hyper-specific gadget designed to solve a problem I didn't even know I had until I was standing in a terminal at 4:00 AM.
A few years ago, I thought a decent carry-on and a neck pillow were plenty. Now, I feel like if I don't have a specific organizer for my chargers, a specialized hydration bladder, and some kind of ergonomic lumbar support, I’m going to have a miserable time. It’s like the "optimized traveler" lifestyle is becoming a full-time job.
I find myself caught in this loop: I want to be prepared so I'm not stressed, but the more gear I pack, the more stressed I get about the weight and the hassle of moving it all around. At some point, does all this specialized equipment actually make the journey better, or are we just buying things to soothe our own travel anxiety?
Do you guys lean towards the "ultra-prepared" kit, or are you more of a minimalist who just brings a backpack and a prayer?
