Is search disabled?

Look, I am fully aware that Reddit crashes every single day, often every few minutes, and it is frankly a miracle that the site stays online at all ☕ however, I simply cannot wrap my head around why I am suddenly seeing this "searching has been disabled" message.

Don't worry, I am not looking for a translation here; what I actually need is a coherent explanation as to why I am unable to search for anything using this supposed forum search tool without being met by this absolute garbage of an error message.

One of the big reasons this forum actually held its own was the search function—it made finding old posts and threads a breeze.

The way we're doing things now? We're basically just a cheap knockoff of Reddit.

So, I was actually just about to ask—what happened to the search option? Why did they go ahead and kill it? 🤷

There’s no info saying it was scrapped entirely. It's just temporarily offline right now.

They really should have just given us a heads-up about that day, letting us know they wouldn't be operational at all and calling it a day, instead of just leaving us all sitting here getting worked up over nothing...😳

I honestly thought they had it out for me personally, so I was sitting there squinting at my screen wondering if I’d just gone blind, checking every single setting to see if I could somehow enable it, when suddenly—boom—I stumble right into this godforsaken thread.

Also, for heaven's sake, you can just use Google. Seriously. Just type the topic name plus Reddit and even a basic search engine will be smart enough to serve it up to you on a silver platter.

Basically, you can tell Google to only look at one specific domain. Since Reddit is indexed really well, the results should be pretty much the same as using our own search bar.

To search just Reddit via Google, just do this:

Type whatever you're looking for into Google and then add site:http://www.reddit.com

So, if we're searching for some term like "NYC_Sash" (not an insult or anything 😁):

NYC_Sash site:http://www.reddit.com and you'll get these results:

Searching...

There, now they don't even have to come back to the search bar. 😁

Any idea when we might actually see this back in stock? Or is it just gone for good...

Hopefully once they finally finish whatever maintenance they're running on the server.
