Hey everyone, could you give me a hand? A friend of mine is looking at picking up a used PC, but I’m honestly not entirely sure if it's actually worth the asking price...

Intel Core i5-3570 3.4 GHz (3.8 GHz Turbo)
ASUS P8B75-V
Corsair Vengeance 2X4GB 1600MHz (8GB RAM)
ASUS HD 7770 2GB
WD Caviar Blue 500GB
Corsair CX 500M 80+Bronze
LG GH24NS sat Bulk
Zalman Z11 case (with 5 fans)
+ Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)

He’s trying to close the deal $1500, so should I tell him to try and negotiate a lower price?

P.S. Apparently, the PC is only about a year old and supposedly in great condition.

not really, because you could probably pick up a brand new machine for roughly the same amount, and it would come with a much more capable graphics card

1 x Intel Core i5-3470 soc 1155 1 x
1 x ASRock B75M-DGS R2.0 motherboard
1 x Gigabyte R9 270 OC, 2GB GDDR5, HDMI, DVI
1 x Kingmax 1x8GB DDR3 1600 FLGG
1 x XFX Pro 450W, 80+
1 x LG GH24NS sat Bulk Black 24x optical drive
1 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM Hard Drive (3.5", 16MB, SATA III-600)
1 x Zalman micro tower case black

$1531

If you have $1500, why wouldn't you just grab a whole new build? I guess spending 4500 on this is just way too much.

Look, I already tried telling him that—honestly, I did—but he’s just being stubborn about ordering it and waiting for everything to come together. It's becoming this whole drawn-out saga... anyway, I'll just let him know that if he's not feeling more than $1333 then so be it, whatever happens, happens

It's probably not worth more than $350. I guess

Only the specific versions of Windows listed here come bundled with the software.

Yeah, but who's actually saying they're original? If they aren't, they aren't even worth $17.

I honestly think what Amy Vaughn12 put together is a much better way to go... especially if you're looking to snag brand-new parts with those longer warranties included.

Care to enlighten us? How is an average user supposed to notice any difference between legitimate Windows and a pirated version?

Honestly, the OS isn't even the biggest headache here. You can actually grab whatever version of Windows 7 you're looking for from this site—it’s totally legal and free. Just make sure you go through the registration process first; you'll get a 30-day trial period, and after that, you'll just need to enter a product key to activate it as a "full version." Of course, if you don't have a key handy, a quick search on Google will show you how to handle the activation... then you're all set.

Yeah, I don't think Windows is really the issue here—it shouldn't be the reason we let the price stay that high...

It’s the same distinction as buying parts versus stealing them. If they aren't broken, they both function. 🙂
