Issues with downloads

Hello,
A friend of mine is dealing with some serious internet issues. A few days ago—for reasons known only to him—he deleted Mozilla. Now he’s trying to download it using Internet Explorer, but every time he runs the installer, he gets some error about "branding" or something similar, and then it just enters an endless loop. I tried transferring Mozilla and Chrome over to him manually, but the download simply won't trigger—though I still haven't quite grasped what exactly the installer is looking for. He can't even run game updates or anything else, yet strangely enough, he can browse via Internet Explorer and use Skype without any trouble. He asked me to post this here to see if anyone has a clue.

Did you actually go to the official Mozilla site to download the original? Maybe you didn't, and instead grabbed some malware from somewhere else.

I downloaded everything directly from the official Mozilla site, and I did the same with Chrome. I even tried migrating his Mozilla folder from my own computer over to his, which got it running—but it’s painfully slow. It’s practically unusable. I attempted a clean reinstall of Windows, but there's a major issue: when the prompt says "press any key to boot...", the whole system freezes. The only thing that stays responsive is the underscore cursor, and then it just hangs there indefinitely. Other DVDs and CDs seem to boot up without any problems at all.
