IV alcohol consumption

Hi there.

A bit of a silly question, I guess, but is it actually possible to mix pure ethanol with something like saline solution and inject it intravenously?
I might be wrong here, but wouldn't the end result basically be the same as just drinking alcohol? Aside from how the ethanol enters the bloodstream, of course.
How dangerous is this, assuming it’s even doable without causing a massive 🙂 mess

I don't actually mean I'd do it, obviously. I was just wondering if it's possible...
Then what about people who shoot up heroin and stuff? I guess they should all drop dead in the next five minutes then.

Could someone give me a reasoned explanation as to why this is dangerous—assuming it actually is? Or, conversely, why it isn't? I suppose I should mention I'm a complete layman when it comes to medicine, but I'm genuinely curious.

Hey, you first mentioned ethanol, and then you switched to methanol!!!!!

If you're talking about methanol—even a small dose could leave you blind, and anything larger would be fatal... I'm not too sure about ethanol... but if we're talking 100% pure absolute alcohol, that would definitely kill you... because the body just wouldn't be able to handle it...
