Jillian Banks

Going by her full name, Jillian Banks is a rising R&B / trip hop singer-songwriter hailing from LA—she’s already dropped two EPs (fall Over in 2013 and New York City in 2013).

Beyond those, she's released quite a few singles, with the standout tracks being “Drowning “,”Brain ” and “Goddess“. Interestingly, that last one shares its title with her upcoming album, which is massive—clocking in at 18 songs! Though, since fans have already heard most of the tracks, there isn't much mystery left for the release.

Banks actually landed the number three spot on NBC's Sound of 2014 list and even picked up a brand New Nominee nod from MTV. Plus, Fox Weekly officially dubbed her an artist to Watch “.

While she cites Fione, Apple, and Lauryn Hill as her main influences, people constantly compare her soulful sound to Abel Tesfaye—better known as The Weeknd.
The "Goddess" album is slated for a release this fall.

I like these two tracks, but they aren't even close to the quality of the first album.😢

I guess I find her song Better a bit hard to get into at first 😬 but then I realized she probably won't even make the cut for the new album. Personally, I think fwm is actually quite great because it leans a little more into that alternative sound compared to the previous record, yet it still stays catchy—it honestly reminds me of a less experimental version of fka twigs

I think I’ll need to give it a few more listens to really soak it all in, but so far, I’m finding it to be an excellent record. It feels like she might have already released some of the heavy hitters as singles—specifically Gemini feed and Mind Games—though maybe I just feel that way because those two have been on repeat for me quite a bit. I also found Fuck with myself, Trainwreck, Judas, and Lovesick to be really standout tracks. To The Hilt is such a beautiful song, too. Generally speaking, I suppose her lyrics have always been her strongest suit, and they certainly remain the highlight of this album, much like her overall artistry.

Just downloaded it—can't wait to sit down and give it a full listen🎉
