Classes for seniors (college kids)?
😁
I meant to type Tai Chi, then realized I wrote students... how old are we talking here?

I know someone’s going to jump back in here with those "it's never too late" clichés... 🙄
Look, I get it, it's true, but does it really need to be repeated every single time we have this conversation?

they just want some cardio and maybe learn how to defend themselves... I mean, we aren't asking for much if they're paying $30-$40 out of their pockets in NYC
Look, man, sorry to break it to you, but yeah, you're running pretty late. If you want to actually get good at fighting, you really should have started when you were 5 or 7—maybe even 9 if you're lucky, or hell, maybe even 11—but once you pass that window, you're basically just playing around.

Eric Jackson43 said:Look, sorry man, but you missed the boat. The sweet spot to start training martial arts is between ages 5 and 7. You could push it to 9, maybe even 11 if you're lucky, but anything after that is just a waste of time.
Come on, Eric Jackson43, don't scare him off. He might just quit before he even starts because of you.
Nipper, martial arts are just like anything else in life. It all comes down to how much work you put in.
It’s definitely not too late at 23.
As for finding a Jiu-Jitsu gym, I can't really help you with that.

They just want some cardio and maybe some basic self-defense... honestly, we shouldn't ask for much if they're paying $30-$40 out of their own pockets per session
Taylor Swift.
😁
Real combat skills are way too intense, too boring, and take forever to actually learn.
(Kidding, obviously.)

Honestly, you're talking nonsense. Just do a quick search online for when guys like Jon Jones started training and how long it took them to become world champions.👋

Anyway, that was just a little joke, honestly, it’s never too late to start. (I can already hear Daniel Chavez14 coming for my throat 😉 )

Zachary Alvarez8, have you finally lost your mind from studying too hard or something? Is sarcasm just flying completely over your head now? 😕
Besides, Werdum was a total BJJ prodigy.

...you gotta burn off that extra energy somehow...
THANKS!
It's the internet. You aren't gonna find "useful" info here.
😁
There's a local youth gymnastics club over by 7th Avenue—Mon, Wed, Fri from 7 to 9 PM.
Then there's one at the military academy—every day after 7 PM if I remember right.
Not sure if they're still running things over in Manhattan.
No phone numbers to be found—just show up and get to work. Then, once you're totally frustrated because you can't do a single thing and you're completely wiped out after two minutes, you'll just quit and start studying for finals. 😁

There’s a spot over on 7th Avenue (if anyone was wondering!), training Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7 PM to 9 PM.
For the newbies—who actually just started about a week ago—the slot is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 PM to 10 PM.
That's at the local youth gymnastics club, but hey, we do full-on ultimate fighting, not just jiu-jitsu.
I'm not really sure if they still do it up in Manhattan...
Yeah, they definitely still do.

In other words, if you already struggle to find the motivation to hit the books, this is actually a great strategy. 😁
And please, don't let anyone tell me that martial arts doesn't build character. 😁

There's also the risk he starts training regularly.
I was the same way—instead of hitting the books, I was at the gym six days a week. Spending more time lifting than actually studying... hmm. Then my girlfriend finally gave me a reality check.
It builds character, keeps you fit, and gives you the ability to actually handle things when the world goes sideways and you start seeing stars because someone's got you in a chokehold.

Thanks to all the good people out there, the "Badalicev" era was more than enough for me!!!
The thing is, I’m looking for some consistent training. I never really got into martial arts before, but after chatting with the crew, I realized it’s actually great to have a place to burn off steam—plus, like you guys say, it helps build character...
I mean, if you just spend all your time drinking at college, partying, smoking, and getting fat as a pig... it's total garbage!
thanks

Honestly, it's true—all this studying has kind of fried my brain for anything else. My bad.
