Kidney issues/health

I’ve got this sharp pain in my left kidney—or at least, that’s where it feels like it’s coming from. I need some experienced people to weigh in: what are the actual symptoms of kidney issues? Can anyone tell if it’s really the kidney?
Getting out of bed is a total nightmare. I can't bend over, I can't stand up straight, and sitting down is just pure agony. Even walking or trying to go down the stairs is brutal. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow, but honestly, I'm terrified it might be kidney stones. 😢
My husband actually had to drive over to his mother's place to grab some Advil because this pain is just unreal. It’s been bothering me before, but nothing like this. At this rate, there’s a very real chance I’ll be spending the night in the ER.

Look, it might not even be your kidney hurting directly; it could just be referred pain making everything nearby ache.
I dealt with kidney stones myself and spent two years going through hell because of it.

If you can't pee, then a stone probably shifted and is blocking your urinary tract.

Get to a doctor or, if you can swing it, book a private ultrasound appointment right away.

I honestly don't know what happened last night. I had this intense pain right where my left kidney is located. It wasn't that radiating kind of pain—my mother-in-law claims that kind of pain hits you in the groin instead. But man, it hurt so bad I practically reverted to being an animal, crawling on all fours just to get to the bathroom. I couldn't lift my left foot off the floor even an inch, and getting out of the bathtub was a total struggle. Urinating was fine, though. What could it be? A coworker at the office suggested it might be kidney stones. I'm heading to my doctor today and I’m going to demand an X-ray or an ultrasound. Which one actually works better???

....and in the end, my mother-in-law saved the day.🙂 My husband ran out to grab some Robaxin; he gave me one at 10 PM last night and another one at 4 AM this morning, and now the pain is completely gone. How is that even possible??????

I actually dealt with the exact same thing a few months ago; I was totally immobilized because the pain was so sharp whenever I tried to walk or bend over. Plus, there was a burning sensation when I went to the bathroom!
I suspect it was just some kind of inflammation, since I started drinking Uvula tea and kept my kidney area warm every single day by wrapping it in a thick sweater, and after a couple of days, everything cleared up. The pain just vanished...
Don't jump to conclusions about it being stones immediately; I'd like to think you might have just caught a bit of a chill, at least I hope so... but if you're still worried it might be stones, definitely see your doctor and let them decide if an ultrasound is the way to go! Good luck...👋

Yeah, maybe it is an infection. Walking barefoot definitely didn't help.🙄 I'm heading to the clinic today, so we'll see what they say. Thanks for the input.🙂

I dealt with kidney stones for two years. During those first few attacks, I had the exact same symptoms as you, and I could still pee just fine.

Then one morning, I woke up with that same horrific pain, and suddenly I couldn't pee if I tried. Throwing up, total exhaustion... ended up in the ER at Mayo Clinic.

They wouldn't even give me anything for the pain until they figured out what was actually going on.
The tests dragged on until like 3 PM (I got there around 9), and they only finally gave me the injections once they confirmed it was stones.

During later attacks, I’d try taking four Robaxins and 300 mg of Tramadol and just wait for it to kick in, but nothing worked.

The pain was so intense I was basically passing out, so I had to go to the ER for shots of Tramadol, Anacin, Robaxin, and Toradol (not sure of the exact name on the last one).

You can drink 2 or 3 liters of water and feel like you have to go desperately, but nothing happens.
It sucks. Really.😢

It took me almost two years to pass everything, but thank God, I'm doing great now.

My advice? Get to a doctor ASAP.

...Yeah, yeah, I was there. But honestly? Tonight I actually got my head right and my body ready, and I slept like a baby. Yesterday and today have been totally fine—I feel like I could go out for a run if I had to 😁. What’s really bugging me now is 🤔 what happens after those two pills. I haven't taken anything else since, and the pain just vanished. Even today, I feel like a brand new person 🙂
...I did the urine test and blood work, and then went in for X-rays. That's it for now. I get the results Monday afternoon, so I'll probably be stuck getting shots all weekend

I read that your husband went out to get the B-vitamin—and I have to wonder, since when does a vitamin help with kidney spasms?

So, here’s the final verdict. I’m feeling perfectly fine myself—blood work came back clean, urine tests are good, kidney scans look normal. Honestly, what was even happening? Maybe I just pinched a nerve when the pain was hitting that peak level...
.......but I'm feeling a lot more relaxed now that I know I'm not hauling kidney stones around inside me.😁

Are you feeling thin? It could be a kidney stone if you can actually feel the swelling under your hands... When the pain hits, try lying down on that side and propping up the swollen area.

I saw a urologist recently because I have kidney issues too. He mentioned that the kidney itself doesn't actually cause pain. It's usually the stones or an inflammation in the ducts—the ones that carry everything from the kidney down to the bladder, I think. As for the feeling of the kidney shifting? Well, my right kidney is quite mobile, though I don't really feel it and it hasn't caused any issues for me. It might just be a stone.

Man, I don't even want to get started on all that nonsense about kidney stones jumping around and needing to be repositioned...
