Kill Bill

Has anyone caught this one yet? I'm curious how it stacks up against Oldboy or Kill Bill.

I’ve got Mr Lady on deck—just waiting to dive into Lady Vengeance so I can marathon them both together

I've been trying to track down Lady Vengeance for a while now... and I'm really hoping it's at least half as good as Oldboy... because if Oldboy happens to be the absolute worst of the trilogy, then this one seriously has to be a masterpiece

You've got it backwards... Oldboy is the best... at least in my book...

Sympathy is really the only true part of the trilogy, mostly because it works as its own standalone thing. Park even admitted the whole concept felt a bit forced at first and he wasn't actually aiming for a trilogy when he started. Personally, I dig Mr Lady the most—it’s raw and unpolished, just pure grit 😁...Oldboy is basically perfect, which almost makes it feel surreal, if you can call that a flaw 😁...Lady acts as the bridge between the previous two films and serves as the ultimate commentary. It’s technically flawless and great in its own right, but it still relies heavily on the other two

Since he doesn't have his own thread, I guess I'll just jump in here.

So, I watched it. It’s honestly a little masterpiece. I wouldn't say it tops Oldboy, though I probably shouldn't even compare them since they're part of that same trilogy thing. They feel different. It’s funny, but also brutal. It starts off feeling like some lighthearted comedy, then suddenly everything spirals into this tangled mess of violence that feels straight out of a Coen movie. Maybe because of that shift, it actually hits harder than Oldboy did for me. I don't know, maybe the title is just a bit off? Personally, I feel like "Eye for an Eye" (until there aren't any eyes left) would have fit better.

Anyway, Chan Wookie is definitely a new face to watch in Asian cinema—a total directorial Godzilla. 😁

Two down, one more to go. Lady is next...

So—is there some kind of specific chronological order—you know, a causal chain—that I should follow? Or can I just watch them however I feel like?

I haven't actually sat down to watch Lady yet, but I don't think Mr Lady and Oldboy really have anything to do with each other, unless you're looking at them through a similar thematic lens, I guess. Maybe the same goes for Lady, too. It feels like these movies aren't meant to be an intentional trilogy or anything... they're more like a specific phase in the director's career. Kind of like how Spielberg had that run with things like A. I., Minority, and Catch Me If You Can, maybe? Just a certain vibe during that era.

Would anyone be willing to mail me copies of Mr. and Kill Bill? Is there any way someone could send them my way via USPS? 🙂

Just gotta finish out the trilogy now. 😍

Just finished watching it. What a gorgeous piece of filmmaking.

Definitely worth checking out if you can.

I just finished watching Fight Club, and man, what a ride... freaking incredible movie...
I’ve actually never heard of this trilogy before, so now I’ve got my work cut out for me catching up on the other two. Lady Gaga seems like she’d be awesome in this 🙂
