Label plotters vs. label printers: What’s your take?

Does anyone actually know if it’s worth grabbing a dedicated plotter or just sticking with a standard consumer printer when you're trying to churn out labels for glass jars? I'm looking at smaller runs here—mostly stuff for a local small business or maybe a community non-profit
