Has anyone else run into this exact issue or something similar?
I’ve been dealing with this super weird glitch on my laptop lately... It used to be that if I had to step away for a bit (or even back when I was using it more regularly), I could just close the lid, come back later, flip it open, and everything would be totally fine. But lately, things have gone south. Now, when I turn it on, the fans start spinning, but I get absolutely nothing on the screen. Sometimes the Num Lock light pops on and the power light shows it's running, but other times, nothing lights up at all—just a black screen. When this first started happening, it would work normally about every other time I tried to boot it up. But now? Not really. I have to do this whole ritual of turning it off, holding the power button down for 60 seconds, and praying. Even then, if it finally decides to cooperate, it drops me straight into the BIOS settings where I have to fix the date and time before it'll actually boot into Windows properly. And even then, I might still have to restart it two or three times just to get it to work.
I did some digging online for fixes, but honestly, nothing has stuck, and I'm not even sure if I'm following the right advice. I thought about resetting the BIOS by pulling the CMOS battery, but from what I can tell after peeling off the bottom panel, there isn't a visible one on the motherboard.
Just to add a little more context: once I actually manage to get a picture and the monitor turns on, everything works perfectly fine. I can shut it down, restart it, whatever—it’s smooth sailing. The headache only starts if I leave it sitting idle for a while without using it. That's when the dreaded black screen hits.
Here is the stuff I've already tried:
1. Pulling the battery, unplugging the power cord, and holding the power button for 60 seconds.
2. Reseating the RAM, pulling the hard drive, and even disconnecting the keyboard.
3. Trying the FN + F5 + power button combo (holding for 60s).
4. Holding Shift + F8 + the power button for 60s.
5. Plugging it into an external monitor via VGA or a TV. Still no signal, so I don't think it's a broken display. As for the CMOS battery, I can't find it on the board, and Google isn't giving me any clear answers on its location for this model.
