Laptop help needed

Just picked this up today. Honestly, I wasn't even feeling it, but my wife and kids were all over it—so we ended up doing it on a 36-month financing plan $3067...I know, I know, it’s a lot, and that 6th gen processor has me a bit worried. When I first powered it up, it just booted into these weird Linux screens that look like old DOS prompts, and it just sat there. It won't seem to load anything else.
Quick question—how do I get Windows 10 running? I've read you can grab keys for about $30 online, but I have no clue how that process actually works.
Also, do I need to take this into a repair shop, or can I just upgrade the RAM myself? And if I wanted to swap out the 256 GB SSD for something bigger, what kind of damage am I looking at for parts?

You could always slap some more RAM in there, but honestly? You don't really need to right now. You *could* also toss in a new M.2 SSD if you want more breathing room.
There’s actually a maintenance hatch on the bottom of the laptop; you just pop it open and swap the drive yourself without voiding the warranty. If you're feeling a bit shaky about doing it, though, just take it to a local repair shop.

A 256GB M.2 SSD will run you about $150
Adding another 8GB of RAM should cost somewhere around $600-$233, just make sure you double-check the frequency so you don't accidentally buy slower sticks than what's already inside.

I was wondering if you guys could handle a Windows 10 installation at the shop, and also if I could pay extra to have my old SSD swapped out for a new one?

You can't just trade in your old gear for a new one and pay the difference.
What they'll actually do at the repair shop is pull out your old part and swap in the new one you already bought.

As for installing Windows, that’s a job that takes, what, literally half an hour? Most shops charge you around $67 just for that. Honestly, if you ask me, it’s way better to just sit down, hit "next" a few times, and call it a day.

A Windows OS license runs about $167 for an OEM version with a certificate, or maybe $1200 if you want the fancy physical installation disc.

I purchased a new HP laptop equipped with both an SSD and an HDD. I am attempting to install Windows onto the SSD, but the system is preventing me; it only allows the installation on the HDD.
Additionally, there is one partition on the SSD labeled HPDOCS containing the HP documentation, and another designated for the system. Am I permitted to delete these partitions without voiding my warranty? Furthermore, if I proceed with deleting these two partitions, will I then be able to successfully install Windows onto the SSD?

One more question: can I install Windows 7 on an SSD? Windows 10 is driving me insane, so I’d much rather just go back to 7 if it'll actually work.

You won't find any supported drivers for that laptop on 7. It's easier to just tweak the Windows 10 Start menu since it's clearly what's bugging you; everything else feels basically the same as 7 anyway.

Just grab Classic Shell and you'll have that old-school Start menu back.
