Hello. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop upon which I have installed Windows 8. Everything functions perfectly fine, with one notable exception regarding the graphics card.

I am not an expert in this field, but my understanding is that this laptop utilizes dual graphics. If my assessment is correct, one is integrated (the Nvidia GeForce 630M 2 GB) and the other is Intel HD Graphics 3000.

The issue is that Windows does not recognize the Nvidia chip within the Device Manager. Furthermore, when I attempt to install the driver from the manufacturer, I receive an error stating that no compatible hardware was found for this driver.

I have searched extensively online, yet I have failed to find a solution.

I am wondering if the problem stems from the fact that I installed Windows 8 instead of, say, Windows 7. Could this be a simple matter of compatibility?

Just head over to the Nvidia website and grab the driver for your graphics card..

http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...px/90496/en-us

Here’s the link—I'm assuming you're running Windows x64, but if not, just select x86 instead, download the driver, and get it installed.

I try to download the graphics driver, but it keeps throwing an error saying it can't find an Nvidia card. Like I mentioned before, Windows doesn't even recognize the graphics card in the Device Manager.

So, I just finished installing Windows 7 and went ahead with the standard graphics driver installation...

It's pretty obvious now that the issue lies with the OS itself. That leads me to my question: is there any way at all to get an 8, or perhaps use an 8-based installer to get these drivers working?

The folks at Dell finally got around to releasing drivers for Windows 8 😬 Just make sure you double-check what you're downloading—don't accidentally grab the wrong one for 32-bit vs 64-bit Windows...

The folks over at Acer finally got around to releasing drivers for Windows 8 too. 😬 Just be careful about which version you grab—make sure you pick the right one for either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows...

I am aware. But like I mentioned before, back when I was running Windows 8 and tried installing the driver, the system claimed it couldn't recognize the graphics card. To make matters worse, the card didn't even show up in the Device Manager.

For Device Manager to even see it, you need the right driver installed. Wipe out all your old graphics drivers first—honestly, just use a tool like DriverUpdate to clean house—and then install the specific version from that link. If you follow those steps and it still doesn't work, then something's actually broken, and you'll need to take the laptop to a repair shop like Geek Squad...
