Laptop recommendations under $1,500?

Greetings, everyone.

The time has finally come to retire my old Dell Latitude in favor of something more modern. From what I have been able to gather, there isn't a direct contemporary successor to this specific model—though please, do correct me if I am mistaken, as I have always had a certain loyalty to Dell.

I am turning to this community for recommendations on alternative models. I will rule out Apple immediately; quite frankly, the ecosystem just isn't practical for my intended workflow. My primary requirements are portability—ideally under 3.3 pounds—coupled with ample RAM and a 13.3" display. I also require a decent array of ports, specifically including HDMI. That said, weight and performance remain my absolute priorities.

I have to admit, I’ve been pretty skeptical about Asus up until now.

So, what’s the actual plan for this laptop? I mean, you might find that you don't even really need 16GB of RAM or a quad-core processor for whatever you're doing...

My workload mostly involves web design and various CAD software. While I don't strictly require 16GB of RAM, 8GB would be a baseline for me. I've noticed that certain Asus models lack USB charging support and tend to suffer from shorter battery life due to their performance profiles.

I was considering opting for the MacBook Air.

They really ought to list the total weight here—charger included. We're looking at 4.2 lbs. The laptop itself is only about 3.3 lbs.

It would be more helpful if they actually listed the total weight including the charger—which is 1.9kg—rather than just stating the laptop itself weighs 1.5kg.
