Laptop screen issues

So, I shut my laptop down last night totally fine, everything was working perfectly, right? Then I power it up today and boom—this random line just shows up across the screen. Is there any way to actually fix this, or am I looking at a dead screen???

To start things off, I'd suggest just doing a clean reinstall of your graphics card drivers.

Already tried that. Total bust.

Do you happen to have an external monitor handy? If you do, try plugging it in—if that line shows up there too, then we’re looking at a software glitch, which is actually pretty easy to fix. But if the external screen looks perfectly fine, I'm afraid it might be a hardware issue with your actual display...

I tried plugging it into a second monitor and everything looks totally fine there. So, that pretty much confirms it—the issue is definitely with the laptop screen itself. Is there actually any way to fix this, or am I just screwed???

If you’ve still got the warranty, just take it straight to the service center...

Otherwise, you might want to hunt down a used LCD that matches your specific model—or just bite the bullet and buy a brand-new screen. You can usually find them for about $200.

Honestly, though? Just weigh your options first... see if fixing this thing actually makes sense or if you're better off just putting that money toward a new laptop altogether.
