I stumbled upon this flick on HBO right when I was about to flip the channel, thinking it was just another cookie-cutter, mass-produced piece of junk. But after a few minutes, I realized this thing is actually built different. I was honestly surprised that the plot isn't just some group of friends making stupid mistakes—like taking a wrong turn, hunting for witches, or having a picnic by a lake—only to stumble into a misunderstanding with some monsters that proceed to butcher them. And man, they don't just kill them; they use kitchen knives, tools, sewing gear... you name it. It’s pure carnage, with blood spraying everywhere. For us horror fans, seeing heads split open like that is just mesmerizing. Honestly, the more creative and inhuman ways they can take out the cast (besides the leads, obviously), the better the horror movie is.
Yeah, Sin City is killer. It's this totally surreal, pitch-black world where the only color is the blood splashing in every single scene. It’s completely unrealistic and unlike anything else. That surreality isn't hidden; it's cranked up to eleven, just like the hatred, sadness, power, speed, courage, love, and sin. The sex and violence create this totally unique way of storytelling—just violence, more violence, and then a double dose of violence at the end.
I know it's not exactly a new release and there's already a sequel out there (which I haven't caught yet), but still.
