I’d really value some expert insight here.
Last night, I had one of those episodes that honestly spooked me. I used to get these back when I was hitting puberty, but since then, they just stopped—so having it resurface now has me pretty worried. Basically, while I'm dreaming or right as I'm drifting off, my whole body suddenly goes numb out of nowhere. At the same time, I get this intense, almost unbearable ringing in my ears and a weird sensation in my body—it isn't exactly pain, but more like an overwhelming pressure, especially in my chest. My entire body locks up, and I can't move a muscle. My breathing gets shallow and rapid, and I can barely keep my eyes open. I can only wiggle my fingers and toes, and the whole thing lasts maybe ten seconds, give or take. The scary part is that I’m fully conscious the whole time, but I'm completely helpless—I couldn't even yell out to my girlfriend sleeping next to me if I wanted to. Once it passes, everything feels totally normal. My blood pressure is fine, and since I'm only 23, relatively fit, and in good shape, I don't deal with dizziness or headaches afterward. It’s like it never happened, but because this is happening again after years of nothing, I'm starting to freak out a bit.
Could this be an epileptic seizure? A heart attack? A stroke?

I’d appreciate any thoughts or advice you guys might have.😕

Look, I’m no doctor, but I totally get why you’re stressing out. Honestly, anyone who actually gives a damn is going to tell you the same thing: just go get a professional opinion.🧐 I know, it’s such a massive pain in the neck,😵 especially when you feel perfectly fine right now. It’s way harder to drag yourself to a clinic when there isn't a single symptom bothering you.🙂
But the reality is, catching stuff early is always better than trying to fix a disaster later. Worst case scenario? You find out it’s nothing at all, and you can finally stop worrying about it. Good luck!👍

Honestly, that sounds just like a panic attack.
Are you under a ton of stress lately—dealing with some major issues or what?
A close friend of mine went through something almost identical a few years back when her parents were going through a messy divorce... she’d just wake up feeling like she was suffocating, couldn't catch her breath, heart racing, and totally paralyzed.
She went to see her primary care doctor, who sent her for a whole battery of tests, and once they confirmed everything was physically fine, she started seeing a psychologist.
After a few months of therapy, she finally moved past it all.

Wait, a panic attack?! While I'm asleep? I mean, you’d usually expect one while you're wide awake, not mid-dream, but hey, anything can happen, right... It’s such an unsettling feeling—you just wake up feeling completely helpless!

saf said:Hmm, a panic attack? While sleeping? Typically, one expects a panic attack to strike while awake, but nothing is impossible. It’s a wretched sensation—waking up feeling completely helpless.

It can happen during sleep. Whenever things get unbearable at work, I tend to wake up gasping for air, feeling this crushing pressure in my chest...😢
Go see a doctor. Based on your description, it sounds serious. Who knows? Maybe it's just a vitamin deficiency, exhaustion, or stress...
