Lost in translation

Earlier today, I started a thread over on the FBI forums titled Card, which consisted of just one single message:

Thanks for all the downvotes on a post about a topic I’m actually trying to discuss.
I intended to go back and edit out the first sentence of that second paragraph, but I was rushing out the door and the change didn't save.

And here is one specific comment:

I am seriously asking: what exactly was controversial about the quoted post?

Then there's this comment: sweeping everything "uncomfortable" under the rug by simply deleting it is certainly a fascinating moderation tactic.😁

This post got a Card because it was just some incredibly mindless trolling from someone who admitted at least twice in this thread that they only showed up to stir the pot.

Well, it's because we have a specific thread dedicated to appeals for bans, where people can argue their own cases—not where they can jump in to complain about someone else's punishment. If the moderation guidelines aren't clear to you, it would be much more helpful if you asked for a detailed breakdown with specific examples and moderator rulings, rather than just fixating on a penalty that wasn't even yours. We don't really do the whole thing where people debate sanctions they didn't personally receive. The moderator already laid it out for you in the post above, and since that ban doesn't involve you, it wouldn't be right for us to keep dragging out the conversation about it.
