Malwarebytes - Unable to access update server

I’ve got the Premium version. It was running as a trial when I first noticed this, but even though it’s fully activated now, it keeps showing the exact same thing.
Looks like I'm definitely not the only one dealing with this, right?

Could this be some kind of virus lurking on my computer, or is it actually an issue on their end?

I tried all of the suggested steps for my Chrome browser and the browser is able to access your web site OK, but your application program "Malwarebytes Premium" still gives me the error message that it cannot access your server to update itself.

Okay, I finally cracked the code on this one! It looks like the issue is strictly limited to the Premium version. The free version works perfectly fine—I just ran a scan and it came up totally clean, plus it updated all its virus definitions without a single hiccup. To fix things, I wiped out the Premium version using their official removal tool and then did a fresh install of the latest free version. Just to be clear, this whole headache with the definition updates was happening even before I actually activated the Premium version, back when I was still in that initial 14-day trial period.

So, if anyone else is dealing with this exact same nightmare, you know exactly what you need to do now. 🙂

I’ve never heard such a crazy idea... ditching Premium just because someone else can't get an update to work? I mean, why even bother installing some sketchy crack in the first place? The update server is fine. I just updated my Premium version this morning and now it’s showing Malwarebytes Premium 2.0.2.1012, database version v2014.06.04.04. Everything is working perfectly.

It’s way more likely that you're looking at a Chrome issue here

Man, what are you even talking about with this "Chrome" and "crack" nonsense? nimbleskipper5, stop acting like you know everything,(seriously, just READ more carefully!) because there is absolutely nothing "cracked" about it. I dealt with the exact same headache back when I was on that 14-day trial period. (And just to be clear, I grabbed it straight from the official Malwarebytes site, not some sketchy torrent or whatever else you might think.) I managed to find a key online that actually worked... but even after I registered it, the thing just refused to update. No matter what!

If you’re looking to "get" Malwarebytes without paying full price, you can usually find a working key on a torrent site—no real cracks needed. You just enter the key, and it works fine. If that key happens to stop working after a while, there's an option in the program—something like "deactivate ID"—where you just click that, and you're right back to having the free version. Or, you know, you could just plug in a different key. ☕

My bad, I should've said an illegal key instead of a crack... though let's be real, it all ends up being the same thing anyway.

There he goes again.🙂 Look, the whole issue actually popped up while I was still in the middle of that 14-day free trial for the Premium version. So, I haven't even touched any kind of license key yet, you know?

Man, you've got a seriously short fuse... I already told you the server isn't having any issues and the official versions work just fine, then you had to go and tell me not to act like a know-it-all... so why don't you stop acting like you're some kind of saint???

Ever heard the term "maintenance"? Sometimes the crew just needs to work on the server, and for obvious reasons, they can't get back to you right away. Just grab a seat on the porch, light one up, have a coffee, watch the sunset, and try again in the morning... honestly, some things in life are easy if you aren't constantly worked up, though from what I can see, you aren't exactly the type who respects anyone but himself. But whatever... you're still my favorite headache. 🙂

Maybe there was some kind of maintenance going on or something, because right now I'm just stuck on the free version until I actually need to upgrade to premium... 😉
