Hey everyone, I’m hitting a bit of a wall here and could really use some perspective.
My mom is 56, and over the last few months, her health has just absolutely cratered. It’s everything at once—mobility issues (she’s basically worn through the cartilage in her hip and has bone spurs), mental health struggles like depression and insomnia, and now heart problems too. She actually ended up stuck in the hospital for a week where they told her she needs strict bed rest. Between all that, she’s popping about 15 different pills a day. I don't have all her specific diagnoses handy right now, but I’ll try to type them out once I finally get home.
The real headache, though, is that her primary care doctor keeps sending her to medical review boards almost every single week, and they keep ruling that she should only be on sick leave for seven days at a time.
To me—someone who isn't a doctor by any means—it’s obvious she can't work. Even when she asked the psychiatrist and the specialist at the hospital where she was treated for her heart, they couldn't even tell her why she isn't being granted longer disability leave. And honestly, it’s becoming a massive burden for me; I’m having to drive her to these appointments every week and miss work myself.
I’m wondering if there’s any way to actually appeal these board decisions or if there’s some higher authority I can talk to? I am dead certain they are making the wrong call here. Thanks.
