Hey guys, I really need some advice here..

Lately, I just haven't been feeling right, but it’s not exactly a physical thing...

I’ve never been the type to obsess over little health hiccups. I mean, I wasn't being ignorant—I pay attention to my body—but I never let anything weigh me down or get under my skin..

But things have shifted lately, and now I’m becoming incredibly overwhelmed by this constant fear that I’m going to develop some terrible disease or disorder.. Honestly, sometimes I even feel these weird symptoms that I never noticed before (or maybe I did, but I just brushed them off). Most people deal with stuff like heart palpitations or random aches, but for some reason, those things absolutely terrify me and just eat at me. 😲

It isn't your typical hypochondria because, in principle, I avoid talking about this in public (I'm not looking for attention or anything), so I mostly just suffer in silence within the four walls of my room..

I realize nobody is 100% healthy all the time, but what’s happening to me lately feels totally abnormal.. I know I can't fall asleep because I'm so preoccupied with the thought that something awful is going to happen to me during the night (or tomorrow). 😲

All of this just makes me more irritable and stressed out, which definitely doesn't help my already hectic schedule..

I know deep down the issue is psychological, but I seriously have no clue what the root cause is. Has anyone else gone through something similar? Why does it manifest this way?

Is it just constant stress? Some kind of mental purge? Am I facing something head-on? What the hell is going on?

Please, guys..

Thanks. 🙂

I was spiraling, honestly. I just couldn't wrap my head around the idea of actually being alive by this time next year.😲 So, I started shopping for clothes, and then suddenly that thought hits me—like, why am I even buying this if I won't be around to wear it next summer? I don't know where that darkness came from, but I decided to pull a total 180 on my entire life. I changed everything, from what I eat to how much I work out. I even tackled the stuff that scared me most, and hey, I made it through. It kept me going for maybe four or five months. I think you’re just totally burnt out. Just stop, take a breath, go for a run, and it'll pass.

And seriously, don't worry, you aren't alone. There are so many people feeling the exact same way:🙂

Mind and body are definitely linked... and it works both ways.

And you're probably looking for some kind of quick fix. But these connections take years to build. Any technique that actually looks at the whole picture requires a deep dive.

It's likely not even about the drugs, but more like... well, maybe the smoking, the weed, the drinking, too much caffeine, the stress. It’s no wonder the intrusive thoughts are hitting you. A little bit of healthy living, some exercise, and things start to shift. Tea, water, light movement...🙂))

The mind-body connection goes way deeper than most people realize—though you might figure it out eventually. For more complex physical symptoms, you need time and a thorough approach.

If you're really worried, get checked out... but expect it to be a year-long process at least.

restlessmarlin6, you should really come check out our thread on "Anxiety"... I know exactly what you’re going through because I’ve been there myself. Even now, those intrusive thoughts pop up occasionally, though they aren't quite as overwhelming as they used to be. I recently had some blood work done and was absolutely terrified of what the results might show, but everything turned out fine, thank God. Now I'm planning to head in for a few more checkups just to finally put those worries to rest. Honestly, I’d recommend doing the same; it helps settle the nerves, and besides, getting a routine physical once in a while is just good practice regardless.

The thing I was most terrified of? Yeah, I went right ahead and did it.

👍

Personally, I’m a firm believer—though I know 😁—that the spirit drives the body, not the other way around. Your body is never going to feel right in the long run if your spirit is exhausted, drained, terrified, disappointed, or just bleeding out internally.

So yeah, I'm a total convert when it comes to psychosomatic issues.

The mind-body connection runs much deeper than people usually realize (though you can definitely prove it)—and when it comes to more complex physical symptoms, you need time and a really thorough approach to figure it out.

👍

Plus everything else shadowgardener12 mentioned—it's all true. He knows his stuff. 😉 🙂

To me, a physical illness is basically just a flare-up signal from the psyche when it simply can't take any more.

The hardest part of everything you said was definitely that bit about... "struggling all alone within your own four walls"...

Please don't do that to yourself—I’m saying this from my own experience—I dealt with really similar phobias and it was such a heavy burden, especially because I felt like if anyone found out, they'd just think I was "crazy"...

until I finally found the strength to reach out for help...

Maybe try talking to a therapist...

For me, it turned out to be a chemical imbalance in my brain, specifically with how serotonin was distributing itself among my nerve endings, and no matter how hard I tried to fight it or face my fears on my own—(sometimes I’d purposely force myself into scary situations thinking I could just "overcome" the phobia, but honestly, I was just spiking my cortisol levels and making everything worse)—I eventually realized I had to get professional help...

In my case, things were even more complicated because of severe PTSD that lasted for years, so medication (which I tolerate really well, thank God) became necessary...

But if you act now while things are still in the early stages, you probably won't even need meds...

Just stay brave...👍

That's honestly what I'd suggest for you too, since getting things checked out can really help settle your mind, and it's always a good idea to stay on top of your health with regular physicals anyway...

she really needs to address the actual root cause of her anxiety—getting regular checkups and constant blood work is just feeding into the phobia, because she's essentially reinforcing it every time she does it...

electricdriver78, look, I have to add... just through your own thoughts, you can actually influence your serotonin levels and other neurotransmitters.

shadowgardener12 said:Hey electricdriver78, I just wanted to mention that you actually have the power to influence your own serotonin levels and other neurotransmitters just by shifting your mindset...

I’m honestly a little worried that isn't quite the whole truth though...

You really ought to seek out some professional help to untangle the stress causing those imbalances; a specialist, usually a psychologist, can walk you through specific cognitive techniques and breathing exercises that truly help bring that stress down...
Doing it all on your own just doesn't really work... 😢

Are you standing at some kind of crossroads—or is this just a feeling that something vital is missing?
Are you actually fed up with this current way of life—this endless, repetitive routine you’re stuck in?
Has it ever crossed your mind that you might be punishing yourself—perhaps because you're blocked and unable to change? You're creating chaos just because it's the only outlet you have left...
ps
That avatar of yours... who are you really angry at, and what are you trying to hide behind that face?

Doing it alone... just doesn't work.😢

Exactly. I just meant our own thoughts are what trigger the whole disorder.

margo, people don't actually think I'm crazy or anything; if anything, a bunch of them have admitted they deal with similar thoughts... It made me feel a little better, but just for a moment.

I've been reading up on anxiety.. I don't know, I've never really struggled with self-actualization, social stuff, or performing (maybe deep down I do, but I'm just not aware of it yet).. Honestly, everything is pretty much fine except for this constant fear of terminal illnesses 😁 and some physical symptoms..

My doctor says it's just nerves. 😕

It’s tough because I’ve never had thoughts like this before, but they just come out of nowhere + these totally unrealistic fears that I won't go into detail about right now—but they're truly irrational, like seeing monsters in my room and stuff like that 😁

I honestly have no clue what this is 😢

Galadriel, yeah, I am; I'm at a major turning point, let's just say I can barely breathe under the weight of obligations that basically dictate my entire future.. I rushed into certain things way too fast just because I was terrified that if I didn't do them now, I never would.. During the workday, everything is fine, I'm calm, I'm joking around and all that.. And then these symptoms hit, and this disgusting fear of things that have absolutely nothing to do with my job or anything else.

Cutting back on coffee helps a bit since it makes me shake uncontrollably; I can't even sit still.. And the thing is, I used to drink liters and liters of it for years and everything was perfectly normal!!!

I'm definitely not in a routine, far from it.. My life is completely upside-down, everything is new—new people, new situations.. New challenges..

As for self-punishment, I don't know, I think I need to do some deep soul-searching... The truth is, I hate myself for certain things, but I somehow feel like things are leveling out. I'm happy because I'm finally becoming who I am supposed to be—maybe that's just incredibly painful!??

Avatar... geee... I'm gonna change it 🙂 As for your question... I guess I'll get back to you.

Thanks, everyone. 🙂

Everything feels relatively fine, except for this constant dread regarding terminal illnesses 😁 and some physical symptoms..

Actually, anxiety isn't limited to just that... An anxiety disorder is essentially driven by FEAR. I don't necessarily think you have a full-blown disorder, but rather that you're experiencing an episode (I went through something similar myself, dealing with those same intrusive thoughts and irrational fears...). Take a look at what falls under the umbrella of anxiety here:

http://www.adaa.org/AnxietyDisorderI...viewAnxDis.cfm

While electricdriver78 shared her perspective, which I respect, I still believe it would be wise to go get a checkup just to put your mind at ease; my own doctor gave me that exact same advice. It helped me immensely because it allowed me to face my fears with a bit of much-needed levity. 🙂

It is highly probable that neither you nor I possess a fully developed anxiety disorder; instead, some form of stress likely acted as a trigger for this specific episode. It is vital to take action immediately before this escalates. For me, prayer was SERIOUSLY helpful. 🙂

Hang in there.

Speaking of the mind triggering physical ailments, there’s actually a book by Louise Hay (think Eminem 😂 style depth) that catalogs just about every condition out there—everything from a simple toothache to serious tumors.
It’s an incredibly insightful chart.
The first column lists the ailment, the second breaks down the psychological root—essentially who the person is and why they ended up there—and the third provides specific affirmations or mantras meant to reshape that person's lifestyle and mindset to facilitate healing.
If anyone is interested, I could post the details here on Reddit (or perhaps it would be better to start a dedicated thread)...
It’s honestly fascinating... when I looked up my own condition and saw the listed causes, everything suddenly clicked...
It’s quite sobering, really... realizing how much we can sabotage ourselves through our own mental states. But then again, it’s truly beautiful to hear stories of people overcoming life-threatening illnesses simply through their own mental fortitude and willpower... 🙂

Feel free to put that into a table 🙂 👍

It's wild how people can drive themselves into that state using nothing but their own psyche. But honestly, it’s beautiful when you hear about someone beating a terminal illness just through mental fortitude—or pure willpower...

I actually posted something similar on Reddit about two years ago. Even now, there are still people who just don't get it—and their way of handling that confusion is usually just to mock others.

They don't need to prove anything to anyone.

I proved it to myself, and that's more than enough.

Exactly. I just meant that our thoughts are what trigger all those disorders.

Well, obviously 🙂

It's just easier to pop a pill than to actually do the work on yourself. Doing the internal work is much slower, it hurts like hell at first, and it drags up all these old, unprocessed issues from the past.

And most people aren't looking for that.

Actually, my bond with electricdriver78 really ignited during a thread just like this one.

And my stance back then was the same as it is today—you don't necessarily need chemicals to heal.

Alright, go ahead and do your thing, placidjackal97—along with me and anyone else who actually feels like reading this stuff. I’ll start a fresh thread over on the Wellness sub-Reddit tomorrow or the day after to get the ball rolling...

As for all that mocking regarding self-medicating... look, you aren't exactly the first person to figure that out. Though, I'll give you this much: it certainly isn't a common occurrence.

Super Miami Beach, I’m sure I’ll pick up a few things to round out my home chart 😉 🙂

I actually keep a little chart for organs—like, if your stomach is acting up, or you just can't "digest" someone, which usually means skin issues.

But yeah, it’s all pretty high-level stuff.
