Hi everyone, sorry if I'm totally reinventing the wheel here! I did a quick scan through three pages, but I couldn't find anything specifically about menstrual cycle irregularities.🤷

I was wondering... does anyone know if there's an effective alternative approach to treating amenorrhea? Like, something outside the usual box?
So, I went to see my gynecologist recently, and they told me that from a medical standpoint, everything looks perfectly fine. They suggested that the reason my period has stopped is probably just stress. I guess? Stress can really do a number on you, right?
Has anyone else dealt with this kind of thing? And if you did, did you try any other types of therapy or treatments besides just taking hormones?
Thanks so much for any insight you can share! 🙂

I find myself wondering whether you have undergone any hormonal testing recently or what those results might have indicated. If your cycle has ceased despite your ovaries appearing perfectly healthy, one must consider the possibility of a pituitary dysfunction—perhaps even a small tumor—or potentially an issue stemming from your thyroid gland...
If you haven't pursued this yet, I would strongly advise you to secure a referral and schedule an appointment with an endocrinologist. One should be wary of simply accepting "stress" as a catch-all explanation without hesitation; it is vital to first rule out any underlying organic causes.

I recently went in for a checkup with my gynecologist, and they assured me that from a clinical standpoint, everything looks perfectly normal; apparently, the main culprit behind these missed periods is likely just stress.
Has anyone else here dealt with similar issues, and if you did, did you explore any other types of therapies or lifestyle changes instead of just jumping straight into hormone treatments?
Thanks so much for any insight you can share 🙂

In my experience, it’s most often stress, frequently stemming from an unstable romantic life or uncertainty about future plans. Honestly, if you feel like you aren't vibing with your partner anymore, it might be better to just call it quits rather than dragging out the misery.
Less commonly, it could be work or school-related pressure, though that really depends on how much of a worrier you tend to be.
There is also the possibility that nutrition plays a role, too.
Most likely, it's just a perfect storm of all those things hitting at once.

Jerry Phillips2 said:It’s mostly just stress, I suppose... honestly, a lot of it seems to stem from that constant uncertainty regarding sexual intimacy and where things are headed in the relationship. It’s heavy stuff. Maybe—and I’m just thinking out loud here—it could be that you're simply losing interest in your boyfriend? If that's the case, it might actually be better to just call it quits now rather than dragging out the misery. Just a thought!
Well, I suppose work stress or school pressure doesn't pop up all that often... though, I mean, it really depends on you, right? If you happen to be a bit more sensitive to those kinds of things—I guess you could say a little more emotionally volatile in that area—then it might actually happen more frequently than you'd think! Maybe!
It’s also possible—and I mean, I really think we should consider this—that a poor diet might be part of the problem too. I guess... maybe? It's just one more thing to look at, honestly!
I mean, if you ask me... it’s probably just a bit of everything, all at once. A real cocktail of all those different factors, I guess! Maybe even more than we realize, but yeah, most likely a combination of all that stuff combined.

Hey there! Gosh, I feel like I almost forgot all about you for a second. I was really hoping those issues you were having—you know, the sexual ones—were all smoothed out by now, but maybe I was being too optimistic? It honestly feels like they aren't quite sorted yet... I mean, seeing as you're out here handing out advice like some kind of instant fortune teller in a teen magazine column. It’s a bit much, I guess! 🙂
Thanks for looking out for me, really! I appreciate the concern. As far as my relationship goes, I’ve been with my partner for six years now, so everything is steady on that front—no issues there at all, I guess. My diet is actually pretty balanced, too... I try to stay on top of things. But, oh man, the stress? Yeah, that's definitely a thing. It’s been a bit much lately, if I'm being honest.

Amy Hill92 said:I mean, I’m really not sure if you’ve gone ahead and had your hormone levels checked yet, or what those results actually showed... but, gosh, I guess it’s worth considering. If your period is MIA and everything with your ovaries looks perfectly fine on the scans, then maybe—and I’m just spitballing here—it could be something involving the pituitary gland? Like, perhaps a little issue there, maybe even a small tumor, though that sounds so scary! Or, oh! It could totally be related to your thyroid, too. There are just so many moving parts with all these hormones, you know? It's all so interconnected, I suppose.
If you aren't already doing this, you really ought to grab a referral and go see an endocrinologist. I mean, seriously... don't just let them brush you off with some vague excuse about "stress" being the culprit. I know, I know, everyone says stress is the reason for everything these days, but maybe—just maybe—you shouldn't take that answer at face value! You really have to rule out an actual organic issue first. It’s better to be safe, I guess. Just get the checkup!

Thanks so much! I’ll definitely be doing that... I really will. I think it's probably for the best, anyway. 👍

Look, the most obvious reason for a missed period is PREGNANCY.
Only way less often is it some hormone imbalance triggered by stress (like an anovulatory cycle) or maybe PCOS. After all that, then you start looking at those super rare stuff...

I'm not sure if you ever sorted that out, but I wanted to mention that I tried drinking chasteberry tea twice a day—morning and night—for sixteen days straight after my surgery. Suddenly, my period actually showed up, which usually only happens about twice a year unless my hormones act up. I stopped taking it because the side effects were brutal. For me, chasteberry tea was a total nightmare.
