Monitor issues

hey there..

so here's the deal.. I've got a 19" Asus monitor that's about a year and a half old. Lately, whenever I crank it up to its max resolution (1440x900), the screen starts flickering. It's kind of like how old monitors used to act when a cell phone rang right next to them, though this is way more intense and lasts longer.

It’s actually doing it right now; it flickers for a bit, then settles down for maybe thirty minutes to an hour before suddenly starting up again.

I guess it might be time to just buy a new one? 😕

I’d say you’re right, especially if nobody actually knows what’s causing the flickering.

If I were in your shoes, I’d suggest starting by swapping out the cable first. Honestly, about 90% of the time, what looks like a faulty monitor is actually just a bad connection or a glitchy cable 😉

Either EM interference, which the author even illustrated using their phone 🙂

If you've got a mess of cables or some kind of rectifier/charger sitting too close to your cable or monitor, that could be generating EM interference...

@darkowl72/">@@darkowl72... most of my cables are about five feet away from the monitor. I don't have any power bricks near it, just the PC tower itself. My case is sitting right next to the screen.

It’s stopped flickering for now... seems like it was only happening at first before the monitor warmed up. But still, those glitches... and they only happen at the highest resolution. If there were actual interference, wouldn't it happen at lower resolutions too?

Now all I need is to go out and buy a whole new monitor. Great.

Wait, you said it’s only a year and a half old? Then it should still be under warranty. As far as I know, Asus usually gives you a 36-month window on their gear...

Grab your phone or a camera and film the glitch happening in real time, then take it straight to an authorized service center. If you show them the video, they can't try to claim everything is working fine and pass the buck back to you. 🙂 Better to deal with this now while the warranty is actually active rather than waiting for it to die completely once you're out of luck...

Yeah, a 36-month warranty... I guess that might be my only way out. Though I'll probably need to track down some kind of replacement monitor 🙂
