I've got this Dell Latitude 5440 running an i7 processor. The issue is, it shuts itself down just ten seconds after I boot it up. I took it to two different repair shops, and they both gave me the same diagnosis: there's a fault with the motherboard—specifically some kind of controller—and they're telling me I need to buy a whole new board. Here’s the kicker: the cost of that replacement part is basically the same as buying a brand-new laptop at Best Buy. I did some digging on eBay and AliExpress and found plenty of boards for much cheaper, but the part numbers don't quite match mine, even though all the other specs look identical.
First off: do you think a board like that would actually work, or am I just wasting my time?
Second: is there a specialized technician in Washington, D.C. who could actually fix my current board? It seems to me that those parts on eBay are often refurbished, which suggests that some of these hardware failures can be repaired without needing to scrap everything and start over.
