Larry Cruz51 said:Because of the death of the pope, theaters and cinemas are closing their doors.

.... The largest AMC Theatres in the city will be dark today, tomorrow, and Friday on the day of the funeral. Additionally, the second largest venue, Broadway, has decided to stop showing anything remotely lighthearted or comedic, just for today and tomorrow, which is what most other local cinemas are doing too.

The Guthrie Theater, the Metropolitan Opera, Jiminy Cricket, and The Comedy Store have all announced they are suspending all performances. Everything should get back to normal by Wednesday....

Thanks for the heads-up! 😉 And here I was, thinking I’d spend my evening watching... hmmm... Hitler! 🙄

I mean, obviously! You can't just throw big public parties while everyone is in mourning...

We’ll manage to squeeze it all in over three days.
At least it was worth the effort!🙂

He certainly earned that much...🙂

A little off-topic here—but after dealing with a death in my family recently, getting out of the house just to catch a movie actually helped me more than I expected...
For me, movies aren't just about killing time—they can be pretty therapeutic, at least in my experience.

I totally get wanting to honor the death of the pope, but shutting down all the theaters seems like a bit much.
There were way better ways to handle this that wouldn't feel so extreme. Like, maybe donate all the ticket sales—or even half—to a scholarship fund for seminarians or some charity the Holy Father cared about. This whole move by the city officials feels a bit too "isolating," if you ask me...

For me, cinema isn't just mindless entertainment; it clearly serves a therapeutic purpose as well (at least in my experience).

I certainly respect the desire to honor the death of the pope with dignity, but shutting down the theaters seems like an excessive reaction.
There were much more tasteful and socially constructive ways to handle this. For instance, they could have directed all—or at least half—of the ticket proceeds toward a scholarship fund for seminarians or some charity close to the Holy Father's heart. To me, this decision by the city officials feels far too isolating.

👍

Honestly, above all else, my heart just aches over the death of the pope. He truly was such an incredibly human being... though, I suppose it might be a bit much of me to say that we should cancel all our shows because of it! I can't help but feel that wouldn't really be in line with what the Holy Father would have wanted. I am certainly all for observing a day or two of mourning, but not in a way that shuts everything down! 😉

Honestly, looking back at history, the Catholic Church has amassed such an outrageous amount of wealth that they basically just need revenue from AMC Theatres tickets during a period of mourning to stay ahead. But knowing how much they preach about modesty... I wouldn't be surprised if they actually found that idea "charming."

Come on guys—remember how it was back when Franjo Harmon passed away? Three whole days without any movies. I don’t think I've ever seen a Blockbuster look quite that empty in my life 😁

It’s no big deal for the cinema—besides, there was nothing decent on TV anyway. And my video player decided to die on me a day early... 🙂 😢

I was losing my mind those three days...

That’s a bit more complicated... honestly, you're probably better off just crashing at someone's place—besides, everyone will be hunkered down at home during those days anyway.

Well, it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, but yeah, that's pretty much the vibe! 😉
By the way, your avatar is absolutely stunning! 👍

By the way, love the avatar! 👍

It felt similar watching it here... just massive crowds filling up Times Square for the nuts 🙄 except this whole thing is going global now.

And those statements? Some woman on the street saying, "He was God to me..." WTF???
I can't even watch this anymore.
I mean, he was a great man and all, but people are definitely overdoing it...

thanks, thanks image Keira is 👍

OT p.s. I'm browsing IMDb and check this out!:

-Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (2007) (pre-production)
-Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) (filming)

Man, people in this country just love to overdo everything.🙄
I bet every single major news network from CNN to local affiliates will be broadcasting the funeral live.

Undertow> I was actually thinking about watching... hmm... Hitler!

🤣

I almost choked on my candy laughing at that. 😂

@Sandra King86<=

I'm with you there. 👍 Except for the part where all that cash just goes toward training priests. 🙄 I mean, the Church probably has more money than Bill Gates at this point. :$$$:

Maybe if they donated the money to an orphanage or just general charities instead? Yeah, that would be a pretty great idea. (though I guess the AMC Theatres would lose out on profit again 😁)

I mean, I guess everyone’s still gonna broadcast the funeral and interview all those weeping believers on the street corner anyway.
