Hi there,

My hands have been dealing with muscle spasms all day following my workout. Should I hold off on training entirely until this clears up, or should I just head back to the gym and power through the discomfort?

Or maybe I should just go and play it safe by being extra careful with my arms?

Thanks,
Roger Smith6

It’s quite simple: just save your hands😁

Is this just standard post-workout soreness, or are you actually in pain?

If it’s the second one, I wouldn't suggest hitting the gym again until things settle down a bit.

But hey, it's your body. Do whatever you want.😁

No.

Spent the whole day dealing with massive muscle spasms in my arms after hitting the gym. Should I just bench training entirely until this passes, or push through it at the gym today?

This happened because you either overdid it—basically overestimated your own strength—or you skipped a proper warm-up. Just something to keep in mind for your next session. If you actually decide to show up and everything hurts—meaning those muscle fibers are fried—don't touch anything involving your arms. Your muscles are basically in a coma right now and need a day or two to recover. Honestly, if you're truly dedicated to the grind, missing two days isn't going to ruin your progress... you'll still see the results by summer.

The rule is simple: you don't touch a muscle until it has fully recovered.
When a muscle is inflamed, the best approach is consistent stretching and massage.

If a muscle is inflamed, stick to stretching and massage.

Just look at the data and you'll see I'm right.

Just look at the data and you'll see what I mean.

Some people actually think you get better results by absolutely destroying yourself every single day, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

It actually does the exact opposite.

Honestly, most of the "experts" on training are either people who never step foot in a gym, or guys who've been there maybe five times and heard some bro at a bar say you have to push until you pass out or can't physically move.

Those types love recommending workouts that leave you feeling like you need a week of bed rest, thinking more soreness equals more gains.

Bottom line? If you actually want to train effectively and see real progress, don't take advice from people who just read a few blogs or listen to hearsay without ever lifting a weight.😁>

Thanks for the replies!

Just so you guys know, I didn't hit the gym because I decided to give my muscles a total break. Mostly because I literally couldn't even pick up a pen.
Man, I have never felt pain quite like that before.

I was an idiot, and next time I’ll be much more careful.
Best,

Look, what you’re feeling is completely standard at first. For me, it was a three-week ordeal. It wasn't exactly agonizing, but there were moments where even basic hygiene felt like a massive chore.

Take some time to recover, then ease back into things. You can expect more of the same occasionally. Just don't let it get to you after the very first attempt. That's just how it goes. 👍
