Music editing tips?

I've got a few things on my mind:

1. Is there any way to take the ID3 tags from my music files and have them automatically rename the actual files to follow a
artist_album_song name
format?
I've been digging through both Apple Music and Windows Media Player, but honestly, I can't find a single setting that does anything close to that!

2. Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid program that can batch-edit those three specific tag fields all at once?

3. Also, has anyone heard any rumors about whether Google might ever launch their own dedicated music cloud app? 😁

First off, Mp3tag does a great job with the initial setup. Right now, though, I’m staring at this massive pile of songs that are all labeled like this:

Artist - Album - Title

The tricky part is that in most cases, I'm missing the Album info and the album art entirely. Does anyone know how I can pull that data automatically? I've already tried poking around Freedb and Amazon, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around getting it to work.

Well, why don't you just have the program extract the album name from the filename, save it directly into the tags, and then let it grab the album art from the web?

I went ahead and downloaded it, but honestly, it’s kind of a letdown. When I jump over to an Amazon search (F10), I see options to search by artist or even by album name (?!), but for some reason, it won't let me search by the track title itself. What I'm really trying to do is have it automatically pull the album info based on those other two details 🙂. To make matters worse, I’m stuck having to enter every single song one by one—it’s just so incredibly tedious! Am I missing something obvious here? Any help would be amazing!

I don't really get what you're getting at. Like, isn't searching by artist and album title enough for you? I mean, I can pretty much find anything I'm looking for 😕

Once you actually track down the album you want, you just hit that write tags option and you're good to go. But hey, if that doesn't cut it for you, maybe give godfather
a shot.

So, if I'm getting this right, he's basically trying to figure out which album a specific track belongs to just by using the song title, right? Like, he needs to know the album name first?

If that’s what we’re talking about, then you can actually find exactly where a song fits http://www.last.fm/search?q=&type=track and then just pull up some tagging software to hunt down the album name and get everything sorted out.

That all sounds like a perfectly fine plan, I suppose, assuming you aren't sitting there staring down a mountain of several hundred—or maybe even thousands—of tracks that would require manual sorting.

So, here's the deal—I've already got my metadata set up in the tags for most of my files:
1. Song title
2. Artist name

What I’m really looking for is a solid program that can take those two pieces of info and automatically fill in the rest of the tags for me:
3. The matching album title
4. The corresponding album art

It would be absolutely awesome if it could pull in the lyrics too, though honestly, that’s more of a "nice-to-have" than a total dealbreaker.

Ugh, man, I haven't come across anything like that before. A single track can show up on like a million different pages—albums, compilations, you name it, it's everywhere. Did you just download individual songs and now the album title is missing or something?

Most of these are just various compilations, "best of" collections, and things like that. It just so happens that most of them don't even have a specific album title attached! Is there any way to at least pull a list of all the albums that feature the song, so I can just pick one myself? Honestly—it would be absolutely perfect if the software were smart enough to automatically grab the very first album the track appeared on and just attach the album art right then and there.

Give thisa shot—the tagger connects directly to the freedb, MusicBrainz, and CDDB servers, so you should be able to pull whatever metadata you're looking for from them.

Yeah, you can search the entire database just by typing in the artist and the track title, but honestly, the whole thing feels a bit over-engineered and clunky to actually use, doesn't it? 😂

Man, I’ve been there—I totally dropped the ball once and didn't bother cataloging my music library when I should have. Ended up spending three whole months manually scrubbing through every single disc just to get things straight. 😁
