Must Watch

Think of this as the spot to dump those movies that didn't exactly set the box office on fire here in the States, the ones most people haven't even heard of but definitely deserve some love. (It’s way easier to just keep one running list going rather than cluttering up the forum with a million different threads)
I've got two relatively recent ones to kick things off:

- WARRIORS, MUS : It's a Korean historical martial arts flick, though honestly, the fighting feels more like a gritty, realistic brawl from the 13th century than any stylized "Kung Pow" nonsense, mixed in with some solid drama. I'd recommend it to pretty much everyone, from the high-brow cinephiles down to the absolute low-brow masses—and hey, don't take it personally, I'm usually right there in the gutter with them😁 . Rating: a solid 5
Hopefully, it hits the streaming services soon. 🙏

- EQUILIBRIUM : A mashup of The Matrix, Orwellian vibes from 1984, and Fahrenheit 451; it's genuinely worth your time.
Some critics will try to claim it's just a cheap knockoff of The Matrix, but from what I gathered, nothing they're doing actually exists in The Matrix. 👍
Rating: probably a 4 for me (might be some plot holes, but you still gotta see it)
Supposedly coming to VOD in about two weeks.

Trees lounge
- My dear Steve Buscemi's directorial debut.
The pacing is slow—probably boring for most people—but I see something special here.
Plus, the style is definitely an acquired taste.

In my opinion: if you're a fan of Buscemi's characters, you'll love this movie too.

Kung Pow; you’re either going to absolutely despise this flick or you'll worship the hell out of it (honestly, it hits way harder if you've got a cold beer and a little something green to take the edge off).

Look, I’m not stupid, but I am definitely frustrated. Instead of starting individual threads for each of these movies, you guys just dump them into some random sub-topic that I happen to stumble upon because it's relatively new. You’ve only listed a few titles with pretty lukewarm takes, too. Honestly, I could list five movies right now that would actually make for a decent discussion—whether they're masterpieces or total disasters—but I don't want to. I'd rather just stop these low-effort threads from popping up; they have about as much substance as a cheap adult film script. Anyway, moving on:

Whale Rider. I haven't picked up the book yet, but this movie is definitely worth your time. It's an American story about a twelve-year-old girl destined to lead her tribe. The premise hits a nerve with her grandfather, who just can't wrap his head around a female leader without a Y chromosome. The bond between them, the clash between tradition and change, and the look at modern tribal life—combined with great acting and scenery—makes this a standout. The plot isn't groundbreaking, but the execution feels incredibly fresh. Highly recommend.
