Hi everyone, my mother just had an endoscopy done, and I was wondering if anyone could help me make sense of these results:
The postbulbar duodenal segment and the duodenal bulb show hyperemic mucosa. The gastric mucosa appears thickened and hyperemic, particularly in the antrum where there are a few erosions. Cardia function is impaired; esophageal mucosa is unremarkable.

I’d really appreciate any insight you all might have...

The results suggest gastritis, which doesn't seem overly severe, but still requires treatment. The mention of weakened cardia function is a bit imprecise; it likely refers to reduced motility or perhaps a possible hiatal hernia.
If your doctor hasn't prescribed something else, you should probably follow this regimen for 2 to 4 weeks depending on your symptoms. You could try H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors—something like Prilosec at 20 mg in the evening, or maybe Pepcid AC 15mg in the evening. If your symptoms feel more intense, then Pepcid AC 30mg at night might be better... though, of course, you should always consult with your physician first.

Anthony D. hey, can you break down this hiatal hernia thing for me regarding my GI issues? Like, if everything else is looking totally fine, what does a small hiatal hernia actually mean? I get the gist that it's basically a bulge where the stomach meets the esophagus, but how much does it actually affect things?
