My Week with Marilyn (2011)

I have to admit, I’ve been anticipating this movie with a certain level of physical intensity, though if I’m being completely honest, my reaction to the trailer was... well, let's just say a bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, Michelle Williams has clearly gone to extreme lengths to capture the essence of Marilyn Monroe, but there's just something missing, isn't there? That certain fatal magnetism that Marilyn Monroe possessed just doesn't seem to be coming through in these clips, at least not yet. I suppose I can only hope the actual film tells a different story entirely. On a brighter note, I am genuinely happy for Eddie Redmayne; he’s a solid actor, and perhaps this role will finally be the thing that truly puts him on the map.

It finally started playing for me, and obviously, I had to dive in immediately since I've been waiting for this for a whole year. 😁 It’s such a solid film, and Michelle Williams is just brilliant—as per usual. She captured Marilyn Monroe perfectly in every single way, which doesn't surprise me given she spent weeks obsessing over her life and work. Michelle is incredible; an Academy Award nomination is practically a given at this point. Not to mention, the rest of the cast is top-tier.

But it also shows this deep vulnerability—this massive, crushing insecurity that almost borders on pathological. Michelle portrays it so beautifully.

Those photos in the first post actually came from American Vogue, and honestly? She looks way better in the film than she does in those. Like, she doesn't have that weird hair growth issue here 😁 and her hair is a little shorter.

I’ve never been much of a fan of Michelle Williams, but this was something else entirely—it felt as if Marilyn Monroe herself had stepped off the screen.
It brings to mind what mistyhound2 once noted: "you can truly feel that signature fatal charm everyone remembers, but also that deep, aching vulnerability—a massive insecurity that borders on the pathological.👍"

Did this movie ever actually hit theaters here in the States?

Honestly, I’m crossing my fingers that Michelle takes home the Oscar tomorrow. I have to admit, I never really cared for Marilyn Monroe before this; I think I'd only seen maybe two of her movies. But after this, I went down a total rabbit hole. I've read her biography, some bits from her notebooks, a few other books... even watched more of her stuff. 😁 It’s embarrassing how wrong I was about her. She was an incredibly brilliant woman, and most people just don't get that.

See, my experience was the complete opposite.
I adore Marilyn Monroe, which makes it hard for me to remain objective. I’ve watched all her films, read the books... while I actively avoided Michelle. Whenever she showed up on a red carpet or in a TV segment, she just seemed so bland 🤷 and I didn't expect much from her in this film. But I am speechless. She completely blew me away. Since yesterday, I haven't stopped watching her filmography, and in such a short time, she's become one of my favorite actresses. I'm crossing my fingers for her Oscar!

Honestly, I fell for Michelle the second I saw her in Brokeback Mountain. I’ve watched most of her stuff, and after seeing her in Blue Valentin and Mammoth, I was just like, wow—I was hooked. She seems like such a sweet, humble person, totally down-to-earth and completely unbothered by all the Hollywood nonsense, which makes her stand out so much from everyone else in the American acting scene. She clearly puts in the work, prepping intensely for every single role and giving it everything she's got. Plus, she collects rare books and reads poetry. 😍 And even MM became wonderful to me. 😍 Watching the Oscars today, I'm rooting for her, and once the DVD drops, I'll definitely be watching it all over again.

Just wanted to bump this thread. The movie has actually started hitting theaters in Los Angeles, though I guess you can already find a DVDrip on torrent sites if you're looking.

So, I was wondering—why is it only playing at Cinemark in LA? Is there any word on whether they'll bring it to other cities soon?
